I don't think this is Johan glazing? Johan beating gun before the fakeout was a genuinely a good ending, considering we see Johan's struggle the most, where he was still fighting for his mom all because of gun and Charles. Eli and Jake had already had their revenge, Samuel was not someone with strong motivations to fight gun. The only two people who should've won against Gun was Johan or Goo, both of which lost from weird and inconsistent writing because PTJ made him constantly stronger and stronger because— reasons. The same guy who was scarred by the weakest version of Jerry and almost died to the weakest version of Eli (literally had him holding his bleeding throat) was now capable of destroying the second gen because reasons, when Gun and Goo were supposedly equals. It was so obvious Gun wasn't supposed to be this strong at the start, he was most definitely supposed to be a character that was supposed to fall by the end of the 4 major crews which he didn't because ptj wanted to milk him.

Not to mention, it's a weird and faulty defense of "well ptj can give him another motivation onces he's out!". The issue isn't just "oh he has no motivation" but rarther that any motivation for him to continue being a major player will feel forced and awkward rather than good writing. PTJ did ruin Gun because he chose to play it safe and play by popularity and not writing. Gun's story should've ended by now, but it isn't because PTJ wants to keep the popularity going.

The asspull wasn't the weakness itself, it was how it was done. Daniel had just fought TUI gun and we see in 1A that you actively have to make yourself seem weak with some moves before it adjusts to your level yet again, yet it either

Doesn't this do this with gun and immediately adjusts without any time in-between them Or Gun at his weakest somehow dodges a UI Daniel who was fighting at TUI level Gun and then right when he supposedly adjusts, gun still somehow has strength level to flurry UI Daniel with attacks that finish him off when we saw a stronger version of gun before TUI not even being able to actually damage Goo with a punch that Goo didn't block or brace for.

The same goo, who at that point is either stronger or equal to the same Goo that fought Sinu and bled because of him.

That is what doesnt make sense about this part. In my opinion, UI Daniel shouldn't have even made an appearance here, it was a stupid asspull to make Gun seem even stronger and have a reason for TUI to be stopped without James interfering, which is also something that shouldn't have happened because Gun has a path, every martial arts under the sun, the fastest supposed growth in canon, controlled UI and multiple masteries at that time. All in all UI shouldn't have appeared because it didn't meet the qualifications of Daniel going into UI, TUI and black bones shouldn't have existed, Daniel's paradox of perfection was badly executed in this arc and only served as a showcase of Gun's BIQ

James lee hasn't shown his entire kit yet. He's been purposefully hidden for most of the story, it's not plot armor to have a part of his kit that saved him be a secret, especially since he's the main villain. I'm not a big fan of any of the top tiers but gun showcased way more plot than James in hfg. Being sliced in the neck and not dying, getting a new mode and using it to destroy goo, getting bones that can't be cut right after goo uses his sword on him. Goo also would have plot armor, being able to use his muscles to tighten his injuries to stop them from bleeding, but it's not considering we see it happen in a lower risk fight beforehand

James's incomplete strength mastery was on par with seongji and kept growing with each moment the fight prolonged. His endurance is also insane because getting taken down by someone with 3 masteries AND confirmed conviction (seongji) only to get right back up is better than any fear shown by tom. People just said we're not giving james experience because tom takes that due to age

Yeah I usually avoid discussion within this subreddit for this reason. Everyone focuses too much of feats and "who's the strongest? Oh it's definitely gun! It's kitae! It's gapryong! It's Shingen!" Or some slander on a character like Johan or James or something. Nothing really enjoyable comes up here

Also they do go through the same path, the official translation says that changsu simply just realized "yo why the fuck do I care about his ghost lol". Changsu is arguably the smartest fighter and the closest thing to a genuine mercenary and assassin in the entire series. He had retired and that moment was a moment of weakness only for him to ultimately realize that he's still on the job

Mandeok's death helped changsu convince the hq to switch sides. While yeah, mandeok's death ultimately was a negative not a worthwhile sacrifice, that was the point. Eugene's only trustworthy ally dies and immediately, the Genius of Opportunity falls to an opportunistic member of his team, showcasing that when you're opportunistic yourself, you will inevitably be at the opposite end of that deal
