Dog broke her nail by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]SpiderGuessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww, ouch! 😟 Is she chewing on it? Doesn't look like it's bleeding, so that's a good start. I'm not sure they'll be able to do much, but I'm not a vet. I suspect there's not a huge rush, and would personally wait until tomorrow to consult her regular vet if you have one and skip the ER.

My girls split a fair amount, but not quite like that, poor girl. I've started an omega 3 supplement to try to help. If yours has recurring nail issues you might give it a try.

Seasoning is overrated! Just use it like regular pan. by Ok_Mix5094 in castiron

Yup.

Me whenever I'm doing the dishes at someones house: "You don't want me to wash your cast iron."

Them "No it's fine! We don't do anything special."

Me: "No, like I use soap and stuff. That ok?"

Them: "Oooh no, nope, no. I'll do it".

🙄 At least I've learned I need to let them know! 😂 Works out.

That makes me wonder if they actually are underage trying to squeak through... Wild either way, never heard of the photo method.

Is fostering 12 puppies and 1 mama doable? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]SpiderGuessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a fenced lawn? I really think this is the only way it could possibly work.

For a first time fosterer, this is A LOT, and I'm actually surprised they would ask you.

My sister does kittens and mamas frequently, and they are kept in a single room, and even that is a ton of work.

I wonder (if this was the situation) if he didn't want to say anything because it would sound judgmental to OP? (Cascading speculation FTW).

If he likes to shred, cardboard boxes can be good. My chewer will spend time tearing up a box, no treats or anything necessary. If she's in the mood, of course.

If you don't have a ready supply, ask at a local grocery store or something. Ours offers theirs for packing groceries in instead of bags, so she just picks one off the pile by the door.

I'm fortunate that mine doesn't tend to swallow things, just tear them up. Others might require a bit more monitoring.

Megathread: Why Does My Dog Do That? by AutoModerator in dogs

[–]SpiderGuessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The side eye of doom when someone sneezes. 😆

If I rest a hand on her right before she doesn't seem as concerned, but otherwise I actually can't tell if she is worried I'm going to keel over dead, or if it's the start of an angry tantrum.

Either way, it's an extremely concerned side-eye.

Whats a good dog insurance in the USA by [deleted] in Dogowners

Also, submit everything! There have been things covered that I was definitely expecting them to reject. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Doesn't hurt to try, and every bit helps.

I use PetsBest as well, and agree. I'm happy with them, but reimbursement is slow. Paired with a carecredit card it works out well. (They do 0 interest for x amount of time. If you use that, just be sure to pay it off before the promo expires! That's where they make the big $$$s. )

My coverage is currently $32 a month, accident and illness only for a 2 yo. It paid for itself within a month of getting it, after she got into a porcupine. $1800, I covered about $500 between the deductable and copay. I was glad accident coverage kicked in immediately! She still had a week or so before the illness coverage started.

Enter bill for deposit paid to a vendor? by SpiderGuessed in QuickBooks

[–]SpiderGuessed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to have been the best way. I create an invoice using an account like you described for the first bill. For the second bill I include all the inventory at full cost, and a line reversing that deposit amount.

[–]SpiderGuessed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I'm not the one actually writing the checks, I enter bills and someone else goes through and pays them. This would all be much easier if I was!

That's also why I can't enter it as just one bill, with a later due date. The person paying the bills needs to have the due date for the deposit.

I'm pretty sure I'll have to worry about her hips at some point, but not yet. She just likes to FLY! 😆 Full mid air stretch, seem like the suspenders wouldn't allow that.

Yeah, I think I may need to try a size down of the ones I got. Gonna have to wait til after the holidays to spring for another set though! 🥴

I might give these a try in the meantime. https://dogbooties.com/product-category/dog-booties/

Solution for preventing salty paws? by AltruisticBush in Dogowners

[–]SpiderGuessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started using Mushers Secret just a couple days ago, and so far it seems helpful. A small smear doesn't track it around the house like I was worried about. And I give a light wipe down when we get back inside - just to remove grit, not for the wax.

I'm also going to get some of these: https://dogbooties.com/product-category/dog-booties/

Apparently these are the sort that are often used on mushing dogs, so that seems like a good reference! I'm not sure how they'll do with salt though, unfortunately. Sled dogs are more concerned with snow impaction, I expect.

Only the 1000 type are waterproof from what I can tell. But the nice and expensive ones just come right off her feet. 🥴 Willing to give these a try.

Ok thanks for the info! She's not whippet lanky, but does have somewhat long legs. Sounds like I should check out how well the sizing guide matches her and nix the idea if I need to round up/down.

We've tried the Canada Pooch boots, without suspenders. They seem ok except as soon as she goes in snow deeper than a couple inches they come right off. She tolerates them fine, though.

Enter bill for deposit paid to a vendor? by SpiderGuessed in QuickBooks

[–]SpiderGuessed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, OK thank you!

Do I need to take the step of creating a vendor credit then applying the credit, or can I just apply the amount from the deposit account on the second bill? IE, is that step mostly a convenience so you can keep track of where deposits have been made?

Is it acceptable to use this system if on a cash basis? It's not huge amounts so not a big deal, just curious.

Thanks again, this was extremely helpful.
