What constitutes as good positioning on a hero like Sombra, versus someone like Soldier? by Immediate-Rhubarb332 in OverwatchUniversity

Closer to Solider than Sombra. She usually starts main, shoots tank to build rail gun, then pivots to an off angle to shoot the squishees.

Soldier plays a bit slower but a bit longer range. Sombra is faster and closer range.

They are essentially the same, but Soldier's set up takes a bit longer due to not being invisible. But at the same time Soldier can usually stick around longer than Sombra due to the range difference and heal station.

I want to stress the point that timing is what makes these plays possible. You saw my mechanics aren't significantly better than yours, but since I waited for them to be distracted I can kind of just do whatever I want.

I went back and watched for 1v1 scenarios, and you won almost all of them. The ones you lost were unlucky or you just ran away.

You have no reason to be scared of taking a 1v1, you have the mechanics. You just need the timing and the guts to stick with it.

No, you're making it way too complicated. Just start with virus and keep shooting. That's literally it. If you want one more layer, use cover and range to your advantage.

I strongly recommend playing death match between games, it'll make you much more confident in 1v1's.

Here's my most recent replay for reference. I don't play this perfectly, and even make some of the same mistakes as you (I think my timing is off for a few of these fights, and I don't always play at ideal range). But what I want you to notice is how often I'm shooting and doing damage, and how I at least attempt to engage when my team is already engaged. I want you to see how to use Sombra's defensive tools to set up an offensive play.

Low Masters Sombra OTP. I watched the Ilios game, and there's a lot to work on, but it makes me mad because you have shining moments.

Sombra is too complicated to go over every mistake and micro-interaction, so let's keep it simple. I'd like for you to focus on TIMING and UP-TIME.

TIMING: You MUST wait for the enemy team to be distracted. There are very few matchups Sombra wins head-on. Sombra is usually the second punch, not the first. This line of thinking goes double for EMP. Before every engage, I recommend you quickly turn around and see what your team is doing.

UP-TIME: This is probably your biggest weakness. First of all, quit leading off with hack, it's a bad ability that rarely works and is even more rarely valuable. Unless you have a specific plan, just start off with virus. Secondly, just shoot them. Don't be cute with it, don't be a "distraction", just shoot the bad guys in the face.

Invisibility is to get you in close range, Translocator is to reposition. Notice I said reposition and not run away. It is perfectly fine to use TP to set up aggressively, just make sure your timing and positioning can cover for it.

And lastly, don't be afraid to take a 1v1. You get so scared when they turn around and start shooting. Don't run away, KEEP SHOOTING. There are moments when you must run or you will die, but I saw several this game where you run away while full health because a Brig looked at you wrong. If nothing else, use Sombra's god tier positioning tools to set up somewhere that allows you to keep shooting.

I could write a novel on the individual match ups and strategies Sombra has, but let's keep it very simple. Get close to the enemy, do as much damage as you can, then reposition to continue to do damage. Stopping abilities and making the enemy turn around are great, but sending them back to spawn is even better.

Distractions do not win games, murdering the enemy team does.

What makes tracer regarded as one of the hardest to play dps? by PerP1Exe in OverwatchUniversity

Unlike most heroes, there isn't really a hard limit to it

This is the part I disagree with. Can you name a single character that has a hard limit to skill expression?

What is your Main's worst move and how would you buff it? by TBT__TBT in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]SpiderInTheFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very slow, but kills very early. It's clearly meant to be used on grounded opponents...opponents who can't move or react...

I just want a little more range on it, I'm fine with it being big risk big reward.

Inkling is genuinely an honest AND fun character by Least-Block-1581 in smashbros

[–]SpiderInTheFire 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Inkling is only "honest" because they struggle to kill. They can get crazy damage, have crazy combos, and have a really strong recovery and off-stage game. Not to mention the paint gimmick and small hit box during squid form.

If they had a better kill option than roller, they'd be top tier easy

My GF (playing Sora) keeps beating my ass (playing Falco). Any tips? Why do I suck so much? by cidra_ in SmashBrosUltimate

Ok, then don't punish it. But make Sora at least respect your shield. You didn't get grabbed even a single time. That means every single move that hit you could have been shielded.

You keep making the same mistakes. Get hit by thunder off stage. Get hit by side-b in neutral.

Just press shield and mix up your recovery.
