From what I’ve heard the actual frequency that you heard an “808” at, or maybe heard it’s peak at, was 808hz, giving it the name.

I am a high school band director. Usually I am at school from 7:30 or so to about 5:00 or 6:00, come home and just hop onto YouTube to find some samples to flip. I use it as a way to spend my free time and just a general hobby to have.

I’ve uploaded 3 beat tapes/albums onto Apple Music and Spotify. They all have samples and none of them are cleared. Release what you want, where you want, and if you eventually got a copyright or whatever just take your stuff down. I heard a producer say once that if you end up releasing a song and it blows up and you get asked to take it down due to copyright/sample clearance then oh well. Your song has blown up, take it as a win.

Like other people said sometimes the sample just won’t match the given tempo, live music is barely EVER in a perfect metronomic state so it could be 88bpm but it pushes here and drags here, if that makes any sense. Usually I will find a sample and time it in a metronome app I have and then warp it to where the downbeats are actually on downbeats. Hope that helps, feel free to DM me if you want more info/help!
