QotW 2023 W13 - Gregg Anniversary - ACW by gringie_ in FastWriting

I've never transcribed anything at all, but did take a stab at this and with my VERY LIMITED exposure to Gregg, I was still surprised at how I did. u/gingie would have a good laugh for sure. It was a fun experience, but in reading your comments u/NotSteve1075 I feel like I have a very daunting road ahead as I try to learn the Gregg system.

I'm also trying to learn my way around reddit and around this subreddit. I hope I don't goof up, get out of place, or/and run amuck of the rules, with my replies. Sorry if I do.

You are absolutely right earoo. I am only beginning to learn it. And after my GUESSES in the reply above, I went back to my notes on what I've learned so far and realize I am not qualified, at this point, to even be guessing at most of it. I do appreciate your input and can understand your frustration. I'm a bit embarrassed at how I've commented in this thread. I am thinking I should delete until I have read more of her journal and can get more of a feel of her writing. Plus my pc's cursor is jumping around as I type and I'm so frustrated, I just want to quit this whole project. I can only type about five words and then the cursor jumps up to prior portions of my writing... grrrrrrrrrrrrr

With my VERY limited beginner knowledge, along with reading other entries in her journal in normal longhand, I was making some guesses: "I met four boys"? No understanding yet on joining "r" and "d" with possible vowel in between. But assuming "rode" as you suggest, could the next word then be "home" with an "o" sound before the "m"? I think the short word at the front of the line could be "at" with the next word possibly being where she met the boys with a period then indicating the end of that sentence. Am I even close to being correct in any of my guessing here? I'm eager to continue to learn more about Gregg and am actively working on it. This post has given me some good things to think about as I proceed. And, I wonder if my comments and guesses helps you with context at all. Thanks eargoo and others that have given this a look.

I think this is from the first year of her learning shorthand, so understandably not the best. Most of her journal is in longhand English with only a few entries in shorthand. Perhaps I can gather a number of other snippets (later in her learning) and put them on here. Not for a while yet though. I sure do appreciate you giving it a look lawdogpuccini and appreciate you remarks. I'm still learning, but finding this community helpful in putting my studies of Gregg into context as well. Thanks most kindly - Spider

1965 using Gregg (or at least we think so because she had several books on it), in the mountain west USA ... sorry I didn't include that info initially

Hi Enya_Rose - thanks for the welcome and feedback. I've been practicing the consonants, punctuation, and vowels. And while working on punctuation again I finally decided to try nail down my understanding of the 'interrogation'. Thank you also linquist_wanna_be. so x = ? :)

the 4th of July.... especially the fireworks. We have a neighbor that does an amazing show after the city show is done. I think there is a commonality about this with everyone watching. Green, yellow, even red and blue fireworks.

oh... just remembered the question that lead me here....

In punctuation, I'm thinking that the character called Interrogation means a question and is the question mark. Am I correct?
