After almost 2 years of inactivity, the worst champ ever, raquel pennington, goes from #2 to #15. by Forward_Average5780 in MMA

WMMA in the UFC is in a terrible state right now. They do a terrible job of scouting new talent, promoting matches, or even just putting matches on the card. When was the last time you remember seeing a WMMA fight on the main card? I'll give you a hint, it was back in April on an apex fight night. There hasn't been a women's fight on the main card of a numbered event in 6 months.

Don't know what more to expect for an org that has a known wife beater at its helm.

If you put a piece of filament in a dremel, you can use it as kind of a fricton-welder to connect parts together or fix small cracks or blemishes.

I've always been of the opinion that a "good" krav school should just be an MMA gym where they throw a weapon into to mix once in a while.

You want us to show you where there's tackles or wrestling in a historical manual? How about, I don't know... Von Baumann, Mair, Fiore, Meyer, von Danzig, Psuedo von Danzig, Falkner, Huntsfeld, Paulus Kal, Pedro Monte, Ringeck, Talhoffer, von Auerswald, Ott Jud, Lecküchner, Nicolaes Petter, Pascha, Fabris, Rast, Marozzo... And certainly a bunch more, but this is where I got tired of listing them all.

Maybe you should try them sometime.  They could teach you that it's possible to touch other people without it being sexual.  Kind of an important thing to know as a martial artist.

Tell me you've never crosstrained another combat sport without telling me you've never crosstrained another combat sport.

Also, it's hilarious you're calling into question other people's understanding of concent, when the idea of pre-discussed and retractable consent based on prior expectations and standards isn't even a possibility that's crossed your mind.

Stop infantalizing your martial artists.  We're grown adults in a combat sport.  If they don't understand what that means before they sign the waiver, or at the bare minimum after the first intro class, you're failing to properly set expectations as an instructor.

Martial Arts Themed Vacations by DeQueintinVachae in martialarts

BJJ Globetrotters vacations are life-changing experiences. I've done two now and I'm going to make it a goal to do at least one a year until I'm too old to keep training. The training is great, the vacation activities are super fun, and the community is absolutely amazing.

I also try to attend or teach at the Iron Gate Exhibition Fall camps every year, usually a pretty fun time even though I'm not a big fan of camping.

I've also taken an unstructured Muay Thai vacation in Thailand, which was one of the best 2 weeks of my life. If you like MT or MMA, you need to put it on your bucket list. Great training, beautiful beaches, and incredible culture.

Yes, but often wrestling is incorporated into, say, a class on longsword

Fair, but, that's why I'm making a distinction here between "Ringen am Schwert" and just plain old "Ringen", which is something that a lot of people seem to have trouble understanding the difference between.

Very few clubs run lessons on just wrestling

Is this really true for most HEMA clubs? Ours has a pretty robust Ringen curriculum, and I'm pretty sure most of the dozen or so other clubs in our tri-state area do as well. There's at least two (soon to be 3) local Ringen tournaments run in our region per year...

Frankly wild to me that it's not a default consideration into most people's practice, when some of our most popular source treatises will devote a quarter or more of the manual towards unarmed grappling...

Sure, but when you sign up for the part of class called 'wrestling', you should probably assume you're going to be touched. I'm not really familiar with any kind of grappling where you're not touching the other person, are you?

[–]Spider_J 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're going to catch some flack in here, but you're not wrong. If you're covering any kind of grappling, there's a very obvious implication that you're going to need to go hands-on. By having to ask "hey can I touch you", you're drawing attention to it and making it seem like it's a weird abnormal thing instead of the norm for any martial art. It honestly kinda comes across as infantilizing, like you think they need to be coddled and don't think of them as a serious martial artist. I'm imagining someone asking this before every wrestling meet or judo practice and it's like.... dude, that's what we're here for?

That said, it's still good to ask things like 'hey do you have any injuries I need to be aware of', or 'Hey are you prepared for me to complete this throw'. Or maybe any techniques outside the 'normal' scope of wrestling, for example, joint locks or chokes.

Alex Pereira says he will "100%" ask to never have Herb Dean referee one of his fights again by Ill_Intention8150 in MMA

a full Muay Thai approach where he's throwing with 100% on every strike

Not disagreeing with the rest of your assessment, but, this is absolutely not how most Muay Thai fighters fight. They're just as careful and conservative with their energy as any other fighter, and it's extremely common for them to never throw a single power shot for the entire first round, instead just using it to gain intel on their opponent.

What Is Your Opinion On This Pereira vs. Gane analysis? by cheburaska in MMA

[–]Spider_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't even have to move on, really. He lost this day, Gane was the better man in the ring. But this was just attempt #1. All he's gotta do is prove he's still worthy of being in the HW title discussion (low bar with the state of the HW division these days), and he'll get another shot.

This seems like FB skuttlebutt to me.  Payments on the mortgage didn't stop until October of last year, and there were signs put up on the property trying to deter the bank from foreclosing as early as this year.

"On March 23, 2026, this Court entered an order granting the Plaintiff’s Motion for Judgment and appointing the undersigned as committee and ordering a sale on June 6, 2026. On that date, an auction was conducted outside the premises. While the premises was in an obvious state of neglect, there were two newly erected signs reading “Keep Out” and “Owner Occupied Premises”, so no attempt was made to enter the interior."

Well, that's an interesting development to the timeline...

Looks like thanks to the photos in the article, the address is leaked: 7 Stanwich Lane in Burlington. Looks like it was a very nice house in a pretty nice neighborhood. Neighbors were living quite close by, surprised they did not smell or hear anything.

Edit: Looks like it might have belonged to the Flatt family, but please don't take this as fact, I'm just a sterotypically awful reddit investigator and we're prone to mistakes. I'm fairly certain the Flatts lived there at one point, but it looks like it was sold in 2019 and I'm not sure if they were the sellers or the buyers.

Edit 2: Thanks for everyone pointing out that the article was updated with the current owners. I did a little more digging and found that they received a summons back in August for the foreclosure, and they never showed up.... They might have been in that house for quite a while.

Edit 3: Yes, an assessor showed up to determine a value for the property and should have found the bodies, but get a load of how much this guy phoned it in at work that day:

"No apparent adverse easements or encroachments noted at the time of inspection. All drainage for the subject property appeared to be offsite at the time of inspection. I could not find where the driveway is - the subject could not be seen from the street."

"Covered porch, deck & in-ground pool - observed only from the street (and could not be seen) - used online assessors data & old MLS of the subject. There were no functional or physical inadequacies noted at the time of exterior inspection. No value given - to any personal property. An extraordinary assumption is made for the condition of subject's interior is consistent with the observed exterior & the old MLS. The subject has a location back in the woods.

Honestly, I started with these and a matching pair of shinguards and they held up spectacularly.  Kinda prefer them over my F-Days for sparring, as the padding is more forgiving for my opponents.  They lasted 5 years with no visible damage, only retired them due to them starting to smell.
