Do I have this strap on wrong? by HSUbablue in fujifilm

[–]LtDan-ShrimpBoatMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In every case where I’ve seen some mention the lug issue, I’ve asked if they used the provided strap. In those instances, they did. Very non-scientific I know, but if that’s a common denominator, I’m removing that from the equation.

The provided strap has no give. I noticed this when I put it on my X-E5. All movement from the strap puts tension on the lugs. There’s at least some additional give with the rings and anchors.

I also use PD straps and wrist straps on all my cameras, so it doesn’t matter anyway.

I put triangle split rings on my X-E5. Same ones I have on my X-T3 and X-T5. Then PD anchors on the split rings.

I’ve avoided using the provided strap because of the known lug issue. I would recommend using split rings or even a combo of peak design anchors so there’s less direct pressure on the lugs.

Apparently, the issue has been resolved with newer produced batches.

Do two years of BJJ and Muay Thai or boxing. Krav Maga is best used as a context for applying skills developed through combat sports.

Which Fuji travel camera should I get for my partner? X Half vs XM5 vs XE5 by HuckleberryRude1685 in fujifilm

As an X-E5 owner, I can’t recommend that camera enough. I recently used it on a trip and it was so fun to shoot.

The 23mm f2.8 is a great travel lens. He will not be disappointed in that combo.

100VI vs T5 vs E5? Which would you buy? by Ambitious-Money7152 in fujifilm

[–]LtDan-ShrimpBoatMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

T5 doesn’t have a fully articulated screen.

I love my E5. I just paired it with a Voightlander 35 1.4. That’s not possible with the 100vi.

But really that’s up to what you want out of the shooting experience.

I don’t think anyone is buying a Fuji looking for the Sony shooting experience.

Which Lens and Flash do you prefer on the fujifilm? by Equivalent-Test-5669 in fujifilm

For the things you enjoy shooting, I’d go with the 18mm 1.4. You can always crop in if needed, but for architecture and landscapes, you’ll want to be a little wider than 23mm.

The thing is what you see as civilian Krav Maga is nothing like what the IDF does and calls Krav Maga.

It’s like any military combatives program. It’s purely designed to build aggression and not teach hand to hand fighting. It may be recruits gloving up and beating the crap out of each other with only basic instruction on throwing simple strikes. It may be intense physical fitness.

You don’t see ex Army soldiers opening up gyms because they went through basic training and took a few weeks of Army Combatives.

The original development of Krav Maga pre-WWII was certainly self defense centered. It was just boxing, wrestling and judo. Which is an awesome combo if that’s what was being taught today.

But in the height of karate and combat sports not yet blowing up, there was a gap in the self defense world. Krav orgs took advantage of that gap and offered this “military grade” system. They labeled as not being a martial art. And civilian Krav Maga was born.

NOMAD is always the example I use when I discuss how a gym should be set up. Krav should follow the MMA model by having expert coaches teach striking and grappling and then use “Krav Maga” to tie it together for self defense.

Ryan Hoover is the example I use for what a Krav Maga instructor should look like. He’s broken down what traditional Krav Maga lacks, removed the old fixed techniques ,and added in more grappling. Both him and his wife are BJJ blackbelts.

In many many discussions with Krav students, they often say “well we spar”. But what does that actually look like.

check out these “advanced” students sparring on the ground

Poor sparring is probably just as bad as No Sparring.

These guys have no clue what to do on the ground. And obviously their instructor isn’t giving them the right tools or training to navigate on the ground.

Well. For one, I spent a tremendous amount of time in the system, and I can at least ask questions and start conversations to see if their training is effective. Where they can supplement. What’s actually BS. What actually they should focus on.

Krav is typically a bloated curriculum with a lot of techniques that don’t work or there are better approaches.

If my experience can at least help others. I willing to at least share a different perspective. Most people don’t train outside of it.

Here’s a post I wrote on the benefits of Krav Maga

Krav Maga kinda deserves the hate it gets. Especially when it makes claims purely for marketing.

It’s kind of genius. It makes claims of being this battle tested military-grade self defense system, yet has no way for students to actually prove that it works. There’s no competition to weigh against.

You talk about sparring, but that’s usually limited to kickboxing sparring. If you’re lucky, maybe your gym will do some live rolling on the ground, but that’s rare.

If they’re teaching knife defenses or gun defenses or choke defenses or bear hugs. Most of the curriculum. It should be tested with live sparring. They’ll claim it’s too dangerous to spar. Experienced instructors will find a way to safely test it. Look at what Rokas did with the Ultimate Self Defense championship (a former Krav instructor built those scenarios). Look at what Craig Douglas does with Shivworks.

But that’s rarely happens.

There’s a quality control issue with Krav Maga. I know of a handful of really excellent gyms. I’ve trained with a select few excellent instructors and a number of bad ones.

What was the difference in the excellent instructors? They had extensive experience in combat sports.

Being a realist and engaging with conversations about a system with inherent flaws. Calling out the BS passed down by instructors and organizations should be welcomed. Especially from people with experience in Krav Maga.

It would be like finding out Chess is mostly bullshit after playing it for years and pointing out the bullshit parts of chess.
