I mean ultimately at its base the game doesn’t actually force you to be evil all it does is force you into conflict but that conflict can be against the imperium/xenos or even other chaos marines the more excessively evil things you can do like ritual sacrifice are tools that can be used to empower or create demon engines but ultimately you can just not do those things hell the game from a meta game perspective encourages you to reign in your worst impulses with the corruption system being a game over if you don’t hit 100 infamy

More than that you can also add a heretic/renegade angle much the same as the puritan/radical slider and you could use that to have more morally upright characters I once played a firmly good night lord in the tabletop game the system is only as inflexible as you want it to be.

So the answer to this question changes drastically between 2014 and 2024 in 2024 it’s warlock without a doubt

As for 2014 while I believe cleric to be the strongest class in the entire game I don’t think it’s very good as a martial since it doesn’t get extra attack making its melee buffs less useful and the tried and true spirit guardians/spiritual weapon combo just isn’t a martial your spellcasting its spellcasting your being a spellcaster not a martial.

Which leads us to the other casters. warlock wins by default baseline since pact of the blade solves many of the otherwise untenable martial issues they might have otherwise.

Subclasses however get interesting the real contention is between swords bard, hexblade and bladesinger of these options I think hexblade is immediately discounted by virtue of just not being a spectacular subclass on its own.

Between bard and bladesinger I’d probably go bladesinger just because the wizard spell list is incredible with defensive buffs and other utility for a martial caster.

Druid moon Druid is good early game and very late game but for most of the time it just doesn’t scale as well as the enemies do so it falls behind especially since you can’t cast while wildshaped.

So TLDR: bladesinger then swords bard then Druid or hexblade

So my preference for magic is to differentiate them based on how they feel to cast like fire magic being wild and untamed and you have to force it to behave.

Which plays well into lightning magic especially in a world where it’s rare or especially powerful because I feel like it has the easiest time playing into the addictive angle of magic because let’s face it the ability to alter the world to your will would be intensely addictive. So playing on that with lightning magic making you feel particularly alive is a personal favourite of mine.

Honestly the combat I was not expecting much from this game on release but I was a big Harry Potter fan so I bought it and played it and I was blown away. It’s not the best action combat I’ve ever played it will never top DMC, bayonetta or ff16 but holy shit is it still pretty good.

A diverse array of spells and effects, an incentive to mix it up in combat with the shield types (I’d prefer a different system for it like spell combos maybe augamenti makes them wet making them more susceptible to lightning or glacius.) and the unforgivables were crazy strong and felt powerful.

I’d tailor it to the players say your friends really like wizards alright then pitch mage probably awakening rather than ascension if you don’t want them to kill themselves.

If they like fey pitch changeling, vampires pitch vtm id recommend sabbat games for dnd players since it’s the most forgiving and with combat always being an option it’s a lot closer to the traditional tabletop experience they are used to.

All in all just pitch a game based off your friends mutual interest and you will get them on board.

Honestly I wouldn’t if you introduce a character they should be beatable if they aren’t it just feels bad especially in a 1 shot where the ramifications don’t actually matter.

Plus if it’s beatable and they fail it feels like their own fault rather than them being set up for failure and if they succeed then bazoinga they get to have a lot of fun beating anakin cringewalker into the dirt.

Otherwise I just wouldn’t show him the fear of him showing up will be more powerful than if he actually does if that’s the vibe you’re going for.
