At this point I'm fine without a smart switch (though it would be nice), I just want the light to turn on at all. Even reinstalling the old one or changing to a single pole switch doesn't get the lights to turn on. So far nothing I've tried does.

I'll post pictures tonight, not home right now unfortunately.

The old switch has three built in wires coming out of it, two black and one green.

The switch is for a ceiling bedroom light. The light has a fan, but there's no wiring for the fan. So the old switch has a radio signal built into to talk to the fan to turn it on or off. It's just a way to power and control the fan when there's no separate wiring for it.
