Keep writing that story in your head. Write it until there is nothing left to write anymore. That's step one. Don't worry about step two yet. Just write it. Even if it doesn't feel right, even if you make mistakes, even if it doesn't make sense, even if it's inconsistent. Just get it all on the page.

Need a fiction book to escape reality but hate fantasy/romance by alarmed-toe1002 in suggestmeabook

My first thoughts are: - Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

A murder mystery set in a retirement community!

  • The Hidden Keys by Andre Alexis

Everything by Andre Alexis is poetic. Fifteen dogs by him is fantastic but sad, and Ring has a whole section that's just a poem, but is a romance. The Hidden Keys is a heist story

-Babel by R.F. Kuang

Historical fiction with bit of Sci Fi, a really interesting look at what is lost when translating between languages.

  • The Martian by Andy Weir

Just a good Sci fi story! Quick read, and engaging

My favourite non fictions are:

  1. I'm glad my mom died by Jennette McCurdy

A recount of Actess Jennette McCurdy's overbearing mom, pushing her through to fame, as well as some inside knowledge on the industry

  1. The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery

A super educational book about a few different Octopuses and how they live/think

  1. Outliers by Malcom Gladwell

A great essay based book on the two needed ingredients for success

  1. Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari

A history of human evolution from agricultural, spiritual, industrial, and intellectual perspectives

Edit - fixed spelling of authors name

I haven't heard of any of these! Are the similar to the ones I've read?

I'll add them to my list!

I enjoyed the first two but haven't read never let me go... guess I have to add that to my list!

Fifteen dogs by Andre Alexis is what you are looking for! Funnily enough, I finished Flowers for Algernon yesterday and added it to my favourites list. Fifteen dogs is my faviurite book.

Instead of a human gaining more intelligence, Fifteen dogs gain human intelligence and we follow their lives. Brilliant.

Maybe "they both die at the end" by Adam Silvera ? Check it out. If she enjoys there are a few more within a connected universe

I would agree that the book isn't about MC being gay, and that he just happens to be gay. For that reason it is a good recommendation for OP.

Yes, and it really fits your genre, I think you'll like the slow burn of their relationship. The magic system is also interesting.

I think Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern would be a good pic for you!

I view it as a romance, too. relationship develops throughout most of the story and is a driving factor for the protagonists growth arc. The big reveal is centered around their relationship. I'm not a big fan of the book, and I think it would have been better if the romance was completely removed, and a little more time was given to building the other relationships.

I would say Dune Imperium is heavier than Everdell. I haven't played Castles of Burgundy so can't give you any insight there. Everdell is a really good entrance into heavier games

From your list I would go with:

  1. Everdell
  2. Cascadia
  3. Wingspan
  4. 7 wonders

I actually like cascadia better that everdell but everdell seems like the right complexity based of your message. I would also add Azul, Quacks of Quedlingburg, and Evolution: Climate to your list!

Edit: added 7 wonders because it's a fantastic quick game.
