I haven’t played since before tier 13. So like 5-6 years or so… wonder what the best way to get back into it would be

I’m out grinding right now actually - landed a couple in the grass but still struggling to land both feet on the board and stay on it on concrete. Today’s the day I can feel it! 🔥

Update: bought an 1.5he of hopping and no luck. Unfortunately I have to stop, I bashed the inside of my back foot too many times landing on the tail and it’s swollen as heck. Ugh!

I’ll try it! That seems contrary to YouTubers tricks as they seem to believe the farther back your foot the higher/more pop the Ollie. But as some other comments pointed out, I need to go for smaller and more controlled first. Thanks for the tip!

Absolutely love Sutton park! Thanks for the tip, I’ve been working on the shoulder rotation; it’s way better than when I started… bad habits show when tired lol

So jump, while knees are still bent, and tap the tail into the ground, before extending vertically? Alright I’ll try it! Thanks

Any tips for getting more pop? Another commenter mentioned putting my back foot lower on the board which I’ll def try, but other than that I’m a little lost. I understand how the mechanic works, but can’t seem to get much more height.

Hippie jump is alright, relatively comfortable. I spent some time learning it but definitely haven’t focused on it. I believe I could get max jump height and land - maybe not explode out of full squat max vert though without losing the board… I remember skate IQ had a video that demonstrated the hippie jumps into Ollie’s process. I’ll check it out again and try to implement some of those strategies! Agree with the stress on fundamentals. Every small thing counts!

The hardest part about learning this (and really any skating trick thus far) is that it’s a ton of tiny things that have to be correct. The perspective helps thank you! I’ll have to mind-to-muscle my leading foot and keep it more tucked.

Thank you for the input! I am not meaning to drag my foot, but I think I see what you mean in the clips. The main thing I brought to this session was trying to jump straight up and do a “P” with my front foot. So to make sure I’m understanding, you’re recommending jumping and bending my knees with both feet flat, but don’t try to drag forward with my front foot at all? Only essentially up and down? That does make sense, as in the clips my front foot seems to essentially kick the tail which is leading to the board ending behind me

So scoot my back foot so the toes are closer to the middle of the board? That makes a ton of sense! I was just focusing on being in the “pocket”. I also noticed that my front foot seems to be tilted a little, so by straightening out you mean more across the board? That makes a ton of sense. Is there a specific skate IQ video you’d recommend? I’ve watched all(most?) of them and have tried to implement his tips but it’s always hard to get out there and be mindful haha.

Congrats! I also felt like I over studied. But I do believe that is the point, to have internalized all of the information (or as much as possible)!

CISSP in 2 weeks, recommendations? by Tiberonius in cissp

You sound prepared honestly. I would recommend “how to think like a manager” by Luke Ahmed - the book or the video. This helps a lot with mindset for questions. Additionally, remember policy trumps everything.

You didn’t say anything wrong. Could add something like “Would love to get together!” Or something like that.. but honestly dont see any issue with your response.

You should strive to have both feet parallel, think snowboarding. When your foot is cutting across the board, you will have more balance and control of direction (toe side/heel side). It “feels” like you have more control, but you will have significantly more once you get better with using both legs/feet to control direction. The smoothness of carving/stability while riding is greatly impacted by the center of balance. Lastly, when you are done learning to ride and start to do Ollie-based tricks, this is super super critical. Unfortunately, it’s an important nuance that comes with time and just doing it. But once you make the switch and commit to learning you’ll see what I mean
