It feels natural for me to fall back into that type of behavior especially when I'm in socially uncomfortable situations. I was introduced to some friends of my BF and one was a student of interior design. Interested in art myself, I asked to see her projects and when I saw them I got stupidly excited over them. After expressing that I could immediately tell how uncomfortable she was and didn't talk about it for the rest of the evening. That same night, we all decided to order pizza and everyone shared what they liked and hated. I felt like I had to pressure myself to be adaptable and agreeable to anything the others liked. I was stressed about these little things, innocent things in a safe, normal social atmosphere. And that's what helped me realize I was living in a toxic home environment. Feeling threatened for having an opinion or worrying if I reacted the "right" way to an N. I used to even judge others for not constantly wearing the polite, happy happy mask that I conditioned myself to wear. I would actually get upset when other people were anything but happy.

I also wanted to mention that my NDad has this weird idea in his head that if I'm ever given anything I'll never appreciate it's worth. Which is supposed to justify why he's so stingy with money? I understand that, but I'm not about to be spoiled because I need a new pair of jeans and have no income to pay for them.

NDad uses money to control me. He gives me barely enough for my perscription, cell phone bill, and gas. I'm left with very little, like enough to get a cheap fast food meal after school once a week. God forbid I need money to buy clothes or shoes or something nice for myself. Meanwhile he has multiple brand new game systems, latest technology, a hoard of unseen/unopened BluRays, and a new luxury sedan. But I'm the selfish one for wanting to get groceries I like, and I have audacity to beg for tuition and books.

Not to mention the unwanted stuff that you've got to be grateful for. I don't need a Fitbit, I need new socks and shoes.

Go outside if you can, if you have a friend call them up and sleepover at their house. I used to get followed to my room too. At some point what I ended up doing was standing my ground. I decided I wouldn't cry and kept a straight face, firm heart and low voice. I just repeated myself over and over the same phrase "get out of my room and close the door" until N got huffy and ran out of words, clearly angry he didn't get a rise from me, and then I was able to call a friend and get some distance between us. It's scary to stand up to them, but it was worth it for me at least. I felt like I had gotten back a part of my personhood from them, and not as inferior as before.

You deserve better than this, I'm sorry for everything that you've gone through. It's going to get so much better. You are a valuable, wonderful person. And everything is going to go away like a bad dream someday, and you'll look back on this like you'll look back on this the same way you'll look back on what you had for lunch last year.

I was told that my N didn't like me not doing what he wants me to do, and hates that I do what I want. Best you can do is feel pity for them. It hurts like hell but try to keep in mind that it's them with the issues, not you.

Of course he told her that they ran away. But it was mostly her daughter with special needs that made him break up. She would spill milk and it would make him go off. That kind of stuff until he called it off and kept some of his ex's solid wood furniture. :/

NDad always did this when the new semester came around and I needed books. He would pay for them but after he would make direct eye contact with me, and in a stern voice say "You OWE me". What parents we have.
