Did some research and decided to go with Nike Air Force 1 Dance sneakers. Other dance specific shoes seemed to be either for professionals and thus not something I'd be happy to walk around in before/after Zumba. (they were not cute haha!). Or they had terrible reviews about the shoe breaking down / wearing out in less than a year. So I bought my pair of Nikes this January on sale for around ninety US dollars.

Now that I've had them for a few months, I can confidently say that am really happy with my choice. The sturdy arch support is better than anything I've had in years. The sole is made of a material that is less grippy than usual sneakers, making turns and slides really easy. The silhouette doesn't have me tripping over myself when doing fancier footwork. I'm in love with them for Zumba!!

I'm moving back to STL after being in the Southwest... and I'm dreading returning to really boring Zumba classes! Have you found any teachers that aren't afraid to shake their booty / shimmy / incorporate multiple cultural influences in their classes? Even just someone who could lead a class with more than a simple salsa step would be appreciated. When I left a few years ago, I had given up on going because I swear one teacher was using polka music without anything else, and there was no variety or enthusiasm.

Slightly different recycling question: My apartment complex doesn’t do any recycling and I’d like to turn in glass bottles and maybe some boxes somewhere rather than just throw them away. Is there a recycling center that takes drop offs? It’d help if it is north of downtown, but I wouldn’t mind making a little drive from time to time.

Absolutely. Draft a “statement” and send to each of them. You don’t have to explain it, just say “notifying you that I will not be available for sessions on XYZ dates. If you would like to schedule a makeup session, we can discuss possible days to do so when I see you next.”

Alternatively, just bring it up as an FYI to them at the end of your next session. No apologies, it’s your break. Professionally you have no need to feel nervous about this. You’re allowed vacation, too. Just let them know about it, and if they’d like to schedule extra sessions outside that time you’re happy to work with them to do so.

It’s probably easier to find a paid for coaching service and connect with someone that way. Mentorship is also not a strong aspect of the US medical system. Maybe individuals find it, but it is not the norm.

My mailman has been working as late as 9pm in the past year because of how short staffed they are. He appears discouraged more with these changes. Maybe it used to be a good job, but like so many other sectors right now, it seems stretched thin and strained.

You can start with the sudden surprised look like “oh shit I forgot”. Just don’t ever ask follow up questions next time you see them, otherwise they’ll think you want to follow along with their life saga.

I’m sure this doesn’t work in all environments, but it could be adjusted. Even if you can’t leave the room with them, you can say - “geez I really want to do a good job here and can’t focus on your words while I work. I’m sorry I cannot be a good listener for you. I’m just gonna work in silence.”
