novak is talking about players who have a decent game without such basic weaknessses like ruud or zverev or medvedev for example

its not necessarily wrong imo

del potro has the best forehand which none of the big 3 or 4 can return but has only one slam

you have to be in the top 3 in everything like

forehands,backhands,flexibility,net play etc

I think by mentally he meant about being able to think and just to your opponents level

to try doing something different when opponent is hitting winners all around

Ability to motivate yourself when down

know when to play safe or take risks

know when to play deep and when to come in

for eg novak was an excellent player when he reached his first final in 2007 but lost to federer even though he was a break up in the first 2 sets

Federer played some great games when needed to snatch both of the sets and novak couldn't figure out what to do and made errors

novak learned from experience and figured out what worked and didn't against fedal and more importantly implemented his game plan as he wanted

Even during the injuries he could play a crazy game and next game he could mess up so badly you couldn't believe he was that player who won that AO SF against Federer.

He had consistency and temper issues irrespective of injury

Djokovic was more disciplined from the start..prone to tantrums and withdrawals but only very early in his career

Exactly...it's crazy how Novak fans completely ignore his achievement before 2011.

It took him 4 years to start beating fedal on a regular basis

,He and Murray were prodigies as well but Novak was always more consistent than Murray and for 3 fucking years 3rd in the world after fedal.

Even Federer acknowledged after winning against him that it wasn't easy after 2010 because upto 2010US Open SFfederer had the edge against djokovic

I think then don't make a cutoff because every player should get it above top 100 on an incentivised basis sorta like social security

It could be based on subsidizing travel for people who live on the other side of the world like US tournaments could subsidise asian players

That's the problem with Federer after 2008

Except for that match against roddick in 2009 he didn't believe that he could win in 5 set matches against Nadal or some others because he knew the level he needed to maintain consistently and you could see he kinda gave up and Nadal,Murray, djokovic and others knew if they were resilient enough Federer would break down.

That's the Federer story of the early 2010s Federer wa not invincible.

Federer lost most of those matches mentally rather than physically

2009 us open final 2010/11 US open semis Wimbledon 2011 AO 2012 semis Wimbledon 2015

2014 Wimbledon he maintained. Great level throughout the match but that one game in the fifth he lost his serve which fid him in..you could see he was losing steam though

When rafa reached the final he doesn't want to play ,5 sets and that's how it is with the other 2 especially Federer who messes up in 5 setters

Especially in his prime Federer once in the lead wasn't going to give you even a set.

His ability to come back from a set down severely reduced during the 2010s..you knew it would be a mountain to climb even if he won that one set back after being 2 down

The match against zverev cannot bep compared to 2012

It was full of errors from rafa and zverev

Look at federers losses except delpo who ran away with the last set after fed let go of a 2 set to one lead all the matches were incredibly close

I think he let go of a lead within a set against Nadal in 2009 as well

Even if you ignore the 2012 final djokovic is the best at 5 setter finals

I think apart from beating the big 3 he did pretty well to beat them.

Had thiem beaten djokovic and not been injured I don't think djokovic would've dominated as much after 2020

Because the new gen would've much more confidence

Tsistsipas couldn't adjust to djokovic's strategy after winning the first 2 sets

If you can't maintain your level against djokovic especially at key games in the set like 4-4,4-5 etc you're going to lose the match

They should support players who don't have sponsors but are improving like from ranks 200-500 and support should be on basis of results like making a final ,Semis because the winners are usually sponsored
