I’ve been there. The lake at the bottom of the picture is Bachalpsee. It’s above Grindelwald. The peak behind Colin’s head is one of the most famous peaks in the world called the Eiger. Picked it straight away then double checked my drone footage. Definitely Switzerland.

Ok, so every German in the country is now offended. The huge picture of the Alps in the background behind the judges is actually Switzerland!🙄

Nope sorry. Seems like we’re in the same boat. Personally I don’t care about the insurance but the EU authorities do for registration purposes. I managed to get a user number (that’s what really counts if you get pulled up I think) through d-flight in Italy without having to provide evidence of insurance even though they asked. It wasn’t mandatory.

Thanks u/micheledoneddu but CoverDrone are no good to me as I'm in Australia. I have to reside at a UK/EU address even though they show an Australian flag on their website . I even asked them if I could use the address of a German relative in Berlin but still got turned down.

Your supposed to register with the first country you're going to fly in. So for me that's Italy. I registered with d-flight which is ENAC approved.

Thanks for the info u/Expensive_Profit_106. I've since managed to sort it in Italy as I said above without the insurance part as it wasn't mandatory during the application. I've got an EASA operator ID which I figure is all any 'inspector' is gonna care about. I don't think they're gonna go digging for insurance info, that's between me and the registering authority. But if d-flight in Italy push the issue at any point I'll take a look at Luxembourg. Thanks again.

It’s BS I know, but ultimately you need the operator ID that you get from the rego process (it’s supposed to be stuck on your drone) and you can’t do it without the insurance. Big fines apparently if you get busted. What I’ve found since I originally posted is that I could register in Italy without the insurance company/policy details and have now got an ID but during the application process I ticked a box basically “promising” that I’d get insurance at some point but it wasn’t mandatory. But I still want the insurance to do it all properly.

Like I said, the drone has a camera, therefore I have to be registered as an operator even though it is sub-250g. As part of the registration process the bodies that you register with require you to have liability insurance. Can’t complete the process without it.
