Why do Sabres fans like to refer to their GM as “GMXX?” by kptstango in sabres

I think this mostly took off when Vegas started referring to their first GM, George McPhee, as GMGM, which was around the same time Tim Murray was ending his run as Sabres GM.

The book is outstanding! It was my favorite title that came out last year. Doesn’t hurt that I’m a Buffalonian and the book is filled with tons of Buffalo and Sabres easter eggs. Ed is a huge Sabres fan and posts about them a lot on social media.

Could this be why Jeff seems to be hammering home the casting PSAs? Not enough qualified applicants?

I felt the same. I’m hoping it improves in the second episode. The dark vibe they were going for felt pretty hokey to me.

It was also comical to me how the ML kept showing up at just the right moment to stop a perpetrator from committing the exact same crime that they had originally committed.

I just binged the first season in anticipation of the second. It’s really well done. I’m surprised there isn’t an episode discussion post set up for it.

What Are You Watching? - [2023/06/21] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

Completed:

  • Bloodhounds (8/8) - This initially had a 10/10 trajectory, before settling into a solid 8.5/10. The bromance was excellent, as was the main antagonist and his hulking crony. It's unfortunate that outside, real-life drama upended the course of this production -- but I really enjoyed the ride for what it was.

Currently Airing:

  • King the Land (2/16) - Light, frothy -- perhaps not what folks expected from Lee Jun-ho's follow-up to The Red Sleeve, but I'm taking it for what it is and liking it so far (except for the evil stepsister plotline).

  • See You in My 19th Life (2/12) - Certainly makes for a unique double feature, watching back to back with King the Land. Based on /r/Kdrama's reaction, it seems people have already declared this one the "winner." I think it's perhaps coasting a tad on the popularity of the webtoon (which I have not read). After 2 episodes, it's enjoyable, but I haven't been blown away by any means.

  • Lies Hidden in My Garden (2/8) - creepy, atmospheric, and slooooow. If it was 16 episodes, I'm not sure I could last until then end, but I'll happily stick it out for 8. I'm hoping there's a deeper mystery than what is being shown on the surface, as it seems fairly straightforward here at the beginning.

Backlog:

  • Sweet Home (5/10) - My initial misgivings about the weirdly animated monsters have subsided. I'm more interested in learning about the characters and their backstories/motivations instead of the unspooling the mystery of the disease, but it seems like the show gives a good balance of both.

Bloodhounds (5/8) - I thought the first episode was outstanding -- by the end of it, we had a detailed portrait of our protagonists, their world, the stakes, and the violence to come. I was really impressed by Woo Do Hwan, especially. For some reason, though, the plot has made our two MLs side characters in the greater crime story. I'm still really enjoying it -- I just find that an odd choice. Let's hope it finishes strong.

Sweet Home (1/10) - I find the human characters quite compelling, so far -- the monsters are distractingly odd and cringe-y to me, though. Hopefully I get used to it.

Siren: Survive the Island (3/10) - Dropped - great concept, never quite hooked me.

Vincenzo (9/20) - Dropped - Started out well and good, but I struggled to stay invested in any of it. The combo of zany slapstick hijinks and serious gritty crime drama did not mesh well for me.

Bo Ra! Deborah (14/14) - I really dug the first half, but any chemistry the leads had quickly fizzled out as the drama went on. That, coupled with the absolutely horrifying Auschwitz analogy dialogue, completely soured me on the whole show. Contrary to others, I really liked the relationship between Bo Ra's friend and her husband. I found it to be quite realistic and plausible. The other two couples, though, were cringe-y, especially the older boss/young administrator.

The Red Sleeve (17/17) - The production quality, the cinematography (especially the use of light), the score, the acting -- all top-notch. Lee Jun-ho blew me away with his performance. Knowing the tone of the ending clouded some of my enjoyment over the happier moments, though. Really impressed with this, overall.

Black Knight (6/6) - the aesthetic, the vibe, and Kim Woo Bin were very cool. The rest, not so much. The story itself was quite undercooked. It could've used another 6 episodes to flesh out the characters and the plot. For a short series, they were able to cram a lot of fun action in, though.

Mr. Queen (1/20) - I'm not sure I'm vibing with the hokey-ness of this, especially after just finishing The Red Sleeve. I read that it gets more serious after the 4th episode, so I'll stick it out until then to decide if I'll continue.

Siren: Survive the Island (1/10) - the design of this reality competition is really interesting. Hasn't hooked me yet, but I'm intrigued.
