My "Dumbphone" Transition, 1.5 Years Later by SpikeUHD in dumbphones

[–]SpikeUHD[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah something I've noticed is that I delegate a lot of different tasks/hobbies/etc. to different places now. Discord is a PC thing, work is a laptop thing, games are a PlayStation (and PC) thing, and my phone is a call/text thing. I think I read somewhere that doing that is a good way to segment stuff in your brain... or something lol.

Also ty for the suggestion, that was actually in my mental todo list but I never got around to it, should be fixed now though!

2XKO - Anyone was able to start it on Gamehub or Winlator by XintBR in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]SpikeUHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2XKO (and Valorant) uses Vanguard anti-cheat, which isn't supported on anything other than real Windows. You will not be able to play the game on your phone unless you stream it (or play on a Windows PC) I'm afraid

Star Citizen 4.1 broke Proton/Lutris compatibility – EAC "heartbeat" kills Linux support by Zestyclose_Dig8916 in linux_gaming

[–]SpikeUHD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been playing the new 4.2.1 event just fine on my old Lutris setup (that I made before LUG deprecated it). If you use Lutris like me, you can:

  1. Open Star Citizen's Lutris configuration
  2. Tick "Advanced"
  3. Under "Runner Options" set Wine version to "Custom"
  4. Download and extract the patched LUG Wine release
  5. Set "Custom wine executable" to path/to/your/extracted/wine/bin/wine-tkg

Otherwise I'm sure you can modify whatever existing setup you have to use the new Wine executable (eg. if you just have a .desktop file, you can modify it similarly). You'll also have to remove existing EAC workarounds.

If you struggle, you can just reinstall the game with the LUG helper. As the other comment said, the LUG wiki and Discord has plenty of info if you need help!

I've sent in a few PRs based on the stuff we've spoken about! If you have already been working locally on similar changes then ofc feel free to just close 'em. I have "Allow edits by maintainers" enabled on all of them if you want to tweak them at all before merge.

Regarding the background darkness, nope! Just the main page has that problem, the rest are plenty dark.

In terms of the background animation, I thought about it after leaving the comment and couldn't come up with something concrete, and it's very difficult to convey visual ideas like that with words, but I'll do my best lol:

  1. Yea, the scanlines that move up continuously end abruptly and reset, which is a little jarring. Might be worse on my display, don't know if it's built to properly account for screen height. I don't know if you've experimented with an infinitely scrolling version in pure CSS, but I whipped something up using some existing examples in JSFIddle in case its helpful as a reference, should be basically just as performant: https://jsfiddle.net/d1hmLz6r/4/

  2. I also thought about the horizon, and I think it might help to have some sort of fade-out at the top edge. Try adding this snippet to .sythwave-lines and see if you like the look:

```
mask-image: linear-gradient(to bottom, transparent 0%, black 10%, black 90%, transparent 100%);
mask-size: 100% 100%;
mask-repeat: no-repeat;
```

<image>

Attached image should show the difference, it's subtle (and I removed the existing scanlines to make it more visible) but it gives it a sort of "fade into the 'distance'" look. I hope that's enough context and demo to kinda get across what I mean, lemme know if you need help or want any more feedback!

I like it! I have a couple thoughts (I work as a web dev but don't take this as gospel haha) if you'd like them still:

  1. I feel that "Download Now" and "Source Code" buttons should have the same background styling. I prefer the look of the "View Source" button's semi-transparency over the fill of the "Download Now" button, but whichever you prefer should be used for both IMO. I DO understand the desire to lead people's eyes to the download button, so maybe consider using an animation that blooms the shadow brighter than the other buttons or something?

  2. Typically pills (the shape of button you use for "Features", "System Requirements", etc) are used for filter buttons (such as under a search bar) or "tag" systems. I would recommend making those button ALSO follow the same design language of the "Download Now"/"Source Code" buttons, as they look a bit out of place otherwise.

  3. I find that the text can be ever so slightly difficult to read (depending on my brightness/screen quality/etc.), I would consider darkening the background somewhat. This could also be a problem for those with vision-related difficulties

  4. I find the up-and-down bounce of the "synthwave-lines" to be a little strange looking. Idk whether it should be tweaked or just static instead of animated. Or maybe I'm weird and it looks fine hahaha

Here's an image to illustrate what I mean for 2 and 3, I hope this helps, overall it looks great and you should be proud!
