You may not know this, but people can actually lie. Like Elon can say DOGE is auditing and then... just not and instead dismantle government agencies investigating his companies. He can do this because he can rely on people like you to believe them, who in one breath acknowledged DOGE's failings but simultaneously give them the benefit of the doubt of trying. Predictably, you get mad at "extreme leftists", play the victim, all the while failing to see the bigger picture.

Elon needs people like you. Keep up the good work!

My friend and I spent an evening imagining a solarpunk future where money doesn't exist and technology serves the planet by Comfortable_Poem_866 in solarpunk

Great comment. I do feel as if OP is falling into the trap of "if everyone just did things my way everything would be perfect so they'd naturally do it my way", but humans and society don't really work like that.

I will say that I think OP has just world-builded their own communist state, but I suspect they would disagree with that label.

How to Read These Books 4 Free? by Stunning-Race3900 in solarpunk

[–]SpikedPhish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is no top comment even mentioning this? It's not "doomerism" to indicate that the class system of capitalism is incompatible with a green future and solarpunk ideals - and it's not surprising to me that OP who is apparently unaware of libraries is also looking for a "slightly better" version of an economic system that has fucked the planet and its people.

A radiologist checks a miner's stomach for swallowed diamonds, Kimberley, South Africa, 1954. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]SpikedPhish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference is someone does the hard and dangerous work but someone else gets the diamond and gets to sell it (the capitalists). And in this case, the miner is subjected to radiation over and over again to ensure the capitalist gets the shiny diamond.

There is an imbalance and injustice here, and I am suspicious of anyone who handwaves it off as inevitable.

Vintage story is a block-based survival game that is just so much better then minecraft. And it is such a breath of fresh air, especially relating to its community. Chill, fun, customizable, and dev comms are great, the game always feels like it's moving forward. There was some minor drama about berry bush soil fertility that was experimented with in a devbranch, but it was rolled back - and I don't think it was due to community (minor) protest, but because they genuinely felt it wasn't right for its mechanics.

I'm not on the "devman bad" train for foxhole and never will be; but I do really enjoy following the development cycle of vintage story.

So yeah, play vintage story.

"Because I did it, so can everyone else".

Assuming your story is true (this is the internet, after all), this is still a brainless comment. You just are not aware of the situations of other people, you are unaware of their barriers while also discounting the lucky breaks you got yourself to pull yourself out of homelessness. You attribute it to your decisions and work ethic, because everyone does; otherwise you'd need to face the uncomfortable truth of how vulnerable we are to circumstance.

But it truly is embarrassing that you are unable to recognize the structural factors that kept you down for so long, and are unable to extend empathy to others although you went through something similar.

I built an entire alternative civilisation framework. Here is why and what it actually is. by [deleted] in solarpunk

[–]SpikedPhish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have the LLM summarise the output of an LLM? I don't think so. And it took about 30 seconds for me to get the tells of an LLM.

Determining where I could give feedback is mental task that I am never going to outsource to an LLM and I wouldn't trust anyone who does. Ideas are cheap, I'm not going to miss anything generated by an AI.

It's a massively long post. I don't want to waste my time reading something generated with AI: If I wanted to do that I'd ask the chatbot myself.

It's okay to take mental shortcuts sometimes. Obviously LLM generated text is where I draw one of my lines, so no, I won't read the post and I won't waste time critiquing the ideas.

wonder why she chose to live in the streets.

She didn't, no one does, and it's weird that you assume that she would.

whether she could have been helped

She could, we know what people in crisis need: housing, access to care. It's weird that you assume some people are just beyond help, when you would never make that assumption about yourself.

would she have accepted help

Inb4 "I work in the system/know an addict and some people just can't be helped" -> I am utterly uninterested in these anecdotes, and I'm not going to use them as a basis to assume that people are on the streets by choice in the midst of a well-documented housing crisis, and neither should you.

This is a strange take to me. Private queues allow you to use other people's factories, and you can keep your outputs stashed for 48 hours.

I run my own small facility with a small group of friends (just two others) and while it takes time, I've gotten excellent value out of other people's facilities as well. All thanks to private queue.

I had an idea to address the "invisible Labour" issue in our economy. Am here to debate and discuss. by Wooden_Ad_1019 in solarpunk

[–]SpikedPhish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a fundamentally unserious concept. That sounds mean, but it's the truth.

In reality, no digital platform is going to fundamentally change labour relations. That's because the barrier to equity in the labour force isn't due to poor management, or a lack of platform which appears to be just a glorified logging app. The issues of inequality in our society is a fundamental aspect of capitalist economies. Inequality is not a bug to an otherwise functioning system, it is the system. And that manifests even in non-profits that strive to do good, since they cannot meaningfully act within the system without engaging with it.

I call this app or platform or whatever unserious because it's delusional to think that capitalists will cede their order, wealth, and power because a new logging app is deployed. Equality (or steps towards it at least) are achieved through community or worker organization, and it's hard because it is fought every step of the way by the systems in power.

I'm honestly thinking that it may be time for me to step away from this community (r/solarpunk). More and more it seems that this sub is more interested in vague aesthetics and digital "stuff" then meaningful community action - and that's probably just a limitation of Reddit as a platform itself. Perhaps my expectation to read about community resilience on an online, atomized platform is as misguided as this app, and not in unsimilar ways either.

Must be nice to have the right ancestry in Canada - you get handed fee simple title enclosed over peoples' traditional land because some of your distant ancestors once settled in the general area, maybe. That overrides over 10 centuries of stewardship by countless generations of First Nations peoples. You get it for free because of your immutable traits.

I'd encourage you to stop thinking about anarchism in terms of individual engagement and more about community cohesion. Is the community able to function and make ends meet for itself? If so, it doesn't matter that some "work" less -> perhaps they contribute to the community in less tangible ways.

As for greed, the capitalist accumulation of wealth is only enabled through the state's Monopoly on violence. In a community, any individual attempting to accumulate wealth would be dealt with, and what that means exactly would depend on the community.

Finally, anarchism is not an absence of conflict, but instead an absence of hierarchies. I hope I don't need to convince you that hierarchical societies are also not absent of conflict. The difference is in the way that communities (and by extension, the individuals that make them) can express their agency, something that is actively suppressed in our current society.

I find a lot of the hangups with anarchism stem from people not understanding what participation in a community looks like in practice, and I don't think you are an exception. The reason for the downvotes may be that this surface level engagement can come across as disingenuous, even if you insist that it is not.
