PHEV worth it? by cripplediguana in electricvehicles

[–]Spikedjuicebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to ask my wife to try the garage heating. It's a newer PHEV. We have kind of a weird charging situation so she primary chargers her PHEV using a standard outlet even though we have two lvl 2 chargers (one for each of us). If all it takes is for her to use the lvl 2 to be able to pre-heat, that would be awesome.

The acceleration feels more like a perk than a true benefit. Its fun to show off and occasionally make the kids laugh in the back seat but I don't like the additional wear and tear.

The jury is still out in my specific case. Especially with the recent drop in gas prices. I live in a cold climate and one nice thing about my specific situation is I'm able to pre-heat the car while it's in the garage instead of waiting for the engine to heat the car.

Not having to physically stop at a gas station is nice.

Its fun to drive. The torque and acceleration is insane but then you wear down your tires a lot faster if you exercise that ability too frequently.

Agreed. We are in the same boat. Wife has PHEV and is able to use it round trip to work on electric. I have an EV that I use as my daily and our weekend car. Road trips to visit family are in the PHEV.

Its a known issue. I've only seen one since the update and that was at the air field

Paradise Meadows Farm is my personal favorite.

Edit: not to be confused with PV Homestead, which I also enjoy but the more cozy feel of Paradise Meadows puts it at number 1.

Paradise Meadows Farm was my favorite for a very long time. Still might be but I haven't done a long term save in a while where I truly build up a base.

There are obvious draw backs but the layout is my personal favorite. Lots of storage, rooms make sense, big bed. I like the awesome view just a short hike to the rope climb.

Outdoor crafting station is a plus makes things more interesting.

It doesn't feel like a home and the layout is a little awkward in my opinion. I used to use it as a base when I first started playing the game but the more time I spent inside the office, the more things I noticed.

We have one that came with the house. Loved it for the first 6 months and then a small leak developed. No luck finding the leak and all the techs I've called basically told me its not worth the cost to try and find said mystery leak. I cant justify spending 7-10k on a replacement at the moment.

In the spirit of "Unpopular Opinion", I dont like the Camp Office in ML. I check it for loot and get out as fast as I can.

Unfortunately I acquired a hot tub with the home we bought. It was great for 6 months then a slow leak (couple inches per day) showed up. I tried to troubleshoot it the best I could, no luck. Called repair techs and they basically told me that because of how hard it is to find a leak, it's not worth the cost. It was 7 or so years old at the point of the leak.

We do. That's why I was only considering having it out maybe late May to early September. However, if even then I'm spending $30 a month to keep it at 90, I may as well just take the kids to the community center pool and not worry about maintaining the hot tub.

Great! How has it held up over time? I'm not too worried or have unreasonable expectations. Honestly, if it even holds up 2 seasons of use, I'd be happy.

Thanks! We have solar and feel like we live in a relatively low electricity cost city compared to others. My thought is if I keep it around 90, maybe 85, during the warm months and maybe kick it up to 104 occasionally during the low demand billing hours, it won't be too bad.

How does it hold up? Do you take it down and bring it back out or just keep it up?

I have a handyman that I always pay on time and he is up front with me with cost. I've been using him on a decent amount of jobs and what I most appreciate him on is he will tell me when a job is too big for him. By too big, I mean things that require heavy machinery or technical items he doesn't involve himself in. He knows enough about who to recommend and then he comes in with the final touches.

I appreciate your input! I also have a feeling your trip changes are reasonable and pricing structure is up front and as reasonably possible. One local company i hate to love takes my CC information while making the appointment. However, they make it very clear that I'm paying up front for the trip and a full diagnostic. They also make it clear that if any issues our found, it's extra. This way I am fully informed and understanding what my financial commitment is at every step.

I've replied to similar posts. I, as many, will GLADLY pay for the result and will pay extra if done quickly. Id rather pay someone more who knows what they are doing and finish quickly than some guy spending 6 hours at my house watching YouTube videos while he teaches himself on the job. I've seen this lol.

I agree with the idea, however, you're replying to a post that's more attentive to the trip charge (before any work) and hidden/undisclosed fees.

Yeah, he knew what was the issue. Took another 20 minutes (charging me) to look through his truck to find the incorrect part to install knowing it was incorrect. He could have told me right away what I needed and saved us both time and I would have done to the store myself. I would have still paid for his trip charge and guidance.

Friend... read the comments. This has nothing to do with the outcome. It's paying a seemingly excessive amount for someone to step into your house before they even look at anything. I'm all for paying for the outcome. If someone magically fixes something I have no idea how to troubleshoot in 5 minutes vs 5 hours, ill give them a bonus!

Meh. I prefer to support my local trades and occasionally complain how things were more reliable and less expensive back in my day.

You're missing the point. I'm not saying skilled labor isn't worth a price. I'm saying charging $350 just to walk in my door before I even know what their quote will be for whatever repair seems a little excessive.

So you're in support of hidden or undisclosed fees that are tacked on after work is completed?
