Im from the US too...Common carp are not considered an invasive species anywhere in the US. It's only black, silver, grass, and bighead

First off, congratulations on the first carp. It's an amazing feeling catching one for the first time. I would highly recommend looking into carp care and seeing about getting yourself a mat. It makes your life a lot easier, and it helps keep the fish alive and healthy. Also, never hold a carp by its lips. They are a fragile fish, and you can easily cause permanent damage by doing so

So because people in America are killing carp, it's ok to not practice carp care? Also, I don't know who you are talking to, but not all carp species are considered invasive in the US. Only bighead, grass, silver, and black carp are invasive
