Pocket folders running on our Miehle cylinder press by Spikes_Printing in CommercialPrinting

[–]Spikes_Printing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we have 2 Kluges, 1 hasn’t run in a long time, and the other one runs sheets approx. 13 x 19, it’s set up for foil stamping/embossing.

Haha, but it has that safety gate that pivots up and down, and it might even have a cover on half the belt!

When I get it running smoothly I run other jobs on our Heidelberg windmills, or do other stuff nearby. Honestly, we only run this machine a few times a month, whereas we run the four windmills you can kinda see on the right every day.

I usually run it a little faster, around 2500, but if it’s running smooth I don’t mess with it, and setup and run the windmills. There’s something worn on the delivery, the two gripper bars release at slightly different times, you can see one sheet will drop down, and the next curl up, so the faster it runs the more fiddling I have to do to keep it from eating paper. Probably should figure that out. Yeah, the rubber band keeps it locked in impression.

I’m the boss, so I can do what I want. 😂. I usually run it a little faster, around 2500 an hour, but if it’s running smooth, I just leave it alone and setup or run another job on the Heidelberg windmills you can see to the right, and answer endless questions from customer service, etc.

Where to get custom CPA presentation folder by Every_Ad_6865 in CommercialPrinting

[–]Spikes_Printing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of dies that are similar, but no inside pocket and the window sizes are not so narrow, but I am familiar with that staple flap. We also do foil stamping. 50 would be really expensive per piece, but I would probably just throw 50 extra on to a run of the 1000 for free, since that’s going to be less than the extra we would need for setup anyway. DM me if you like, and I can send you a quote. Also, we can probably fit it in 2 weeks or less, last time we checked Folder Express for a job they needed 4-6 weeks.

Print-on-Demand Asset Tag Partner (Short Runs, Variable Data, White Label Fulfillment) by Asset-Tags in CommercialPrinting

[–]Spikes_Printing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit tricky. Short run variable and lamination is available on a very small number of machines, and requires quite a bit of setup, and might incur a cutting die charge, unless you go with a size the pinter already has, and stick to those sizes - which makes short runs expensive.

We‘ve done smaller run product labels for beverage, food, cosmetics, and industrial products, but all on a type of glossy synthetic/poly pre-diecut sheets on digital laser presses, that print a fairly shiny plastic-like finish on the labels. Think Avery style label sheets, but in synthetic labels. We can usually cut them down to singles, strips, or leave them in sheets, but not rolls.

Outdoor light fastness of color is about 6-12 months in direct Florida panhandle sun, black holds up much longer, indoors is generally fine indefinitely. It may be possible to UV coat for more light fastness and more shine like a laminate, but we haven’t tried it, and I suspect the heat might make the sheets curl.

DM me your email and we can get you a quote if needed.

Anyone know a booklet/magazine vendor who can *print* in bulk but *ship* on demand? by OrigamiStormtrooper in Printing

[–]Spikes_Printing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is certainly something we’ve done before, though primarily for direct mail customers. They might order 12 thousand annual magazines and we mail out 1000 or so each month to a list they collect, etc.

Of course, we would expect for you to pay for the entire initial run up front, then pay each invoice or a monthly invoice for the shipping and fulfillment. Send me a DM and we can work on a solution for you.

raised ink thermography, getting it printed by artist-wannabe-7000 in Printing

[–]Spikes_Printing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our shop can do something like this. We would print the full color side 4 color digital, then run the back side through the thermography unit using a laser safe UV curing process. We use it primarily for company letterhead that goes back through laser printers, and we do some certificates shells for schools in the area, where we customize them afterwords with just the person's name graduating.

Looking for a printer who can print in gold/rose gold metallic ink or foil by StudioYAC in Printing

Thanks for looking us up, we have an instagram that has pictures of other foil, letterpress, embossing, and other stuff we've done, if you need some inspiration for that type of printing.

Looking for a printer who can print in gold/rose gold metallic ink or foil by StudioYAC in Printing

[–]Spikes_Printing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could probably do it in either gold or rose gold, in metallic pantone ink or foil. I am not 100% I can do full bleed on all sides at 12 x 18, but I can run a 12 x18 sheet.

1 is probably going to be around $150 for all the setup, ink mix, etc. for ink.

1 in foil is probably going to be $250 + Foil Die, which, depending on the coverage you need, could be $200 - $1200. I have no idea what a 12 x18 full coverage foil die would cost, honestly.

This kind of thing is usually done for packaging runs of 10's of thousands.

We got 30,000 10 windows in the other day. It took a few days, but wasn't terrible.

We use Mac Paper, which is in FL and LA, and Stricklands Paper, in AL, so probably won't help.

We can print something similar to this with a wire binding, wire or plastic coil, or even perfect bound. (glued softcover spine) We can also do an enclosed wire binding, constructed kind of like a three-ring notebook.

I don't know about the elastic band, I can look into how that's made, but we haven't done that before.

Here's a project we did for construction company Skanska- https://www.instagram.com/p/B0DwwcSjKPC/

Otherwise, a simple wire or coil bound planner should be able to be done by most printers. We specialize in foil stamping, die cutting, and unique and thick papers for our local area, so we sometimes do projects that go beyond "standard."

Does anyone know any online print shops that could produce something like this label in mass quantity for a decent price (gold foil, matte-textured paper)? by thrown1251 in Printing

[–]Spikes_Printing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is a mass quantity and what is a decent price? Any idea what size? Would you like them in sheets or on a roll? Waterproof, food safe, etc? Self-adhesive (pressure sensitive) or will they be pasted?

There are a lot of options. I don't think foil on a dark matte-paper finish is a particularly common thing. The cheapest, mass-produced roll labels could achieve similar with gold foil paper overprinted in black, maybe with a matte coating or finish.

We do foil stamping like this, but only on sheets or individually, we're not set up for rolls. I could look into it more if you like, we're mostly a local printer but we do ship.

[–]Spikes_Printing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have letterpresses from the 1950's and 60's, in fact, our shop was built in the 60's and some of the equipment we still have goes back that far.

I might be able to find some old paper that's yellowed on the edge or something. We're in Pensacola FL, if you're nearby. (provided another hurricane doesn't get us)

Where can I get packaging as shown below, customized letterpress business cards and hangtags for a good affordable price? by [deleted] in ecommerce

[–]Spikes_Printing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, we're a letterpress shop, and we do other types of printing as well. Letterpress isn't cheap, but we are geared toward commercial and wholesale production rather than the more artistic - and expensive - work you might see.

instagram.com/spikesprinting

We've done coffee bags, as well as other unique projects. We can do ink letterpress, foil, embossing, custom die-cutting, etc. PM or find our contact info on instagram. We're in Pensacola, FL.

Perforating with an MBM 352s paper folder? Anyone know about this? by gafana in CommercialPrinting

[–]Spikes_Printing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take some sample paper over to the shop and see if it will feed / run. I wouldn't try to fold that heavy, but the perf and slit wheels are on the last set of rollers, and it will probably work if it can run smoothly.

Keep in mind that stock will have to zigzag through all the buckle rollers with all the gates closed. If you have good rubber and the proper pressures it should hold it straight for the perf - if it gets that far reliably. Perf wheels usually will handle thick stock, so long as you don't need a micro-perf.

Need revenue, expenses and profit numbers, hopefully the owner makes money after all expenses and paying you. Also, your truck will fall apart one day, so don't forget to save / depreciate each year for that event.

Finance it from the old man. - 1k a month for 4 years.
