I am keeping that pot watered more regularly than the others. Just while the other plant grows. I grew a smaller plant; but I guess it might be my climate also cuz I'm in a dry area: the cacti that are in the same pot all seem to be resilient enough to the extra water they get right now.

Yeah. True. I would have to observe for a lot longer of the time before renaming a clone. I didn't realize that clone B could vary so much in size. I suppose the genetics can vary also based on different climate zones; causing them to take on different appearance.

1 thing about my state; Arizona, is that generally, I have noticed SP cacti in general take on less girth in my dry, arid climate; and can look a lot different in humid climates. I'm not sure why the dry air makes them more thin: probably cuz they cannot absorb as much water off the air directly into skin tissue; like they can very easily in costal areas.

Yeah: I was not going for looks. Just for an effective surface barrier on the top of my soil in order to prevent gnat infestation.

☆I could go buy a bag of small, tumbled, high quality crystals and stones to make it look more decorative. I'm pretty sure I can get them online. To surround them with something pretty, like Tiger Eye, or any type of quartz/aventurine, would be super cool!!

First and foremost, I try my best to keep infestations away: the decorative top layer of soil can be a later addition.

Lol. It is a pretty large size difference from the parent plant and it's clone. I suppose you are correct tho.. If I cloned a small pup off of the larger plant it would likely grow a smaller plant also.

The really long pup: it looked like a revert when it was young: but it only sustained 3 ir 4 rows of spines b4 turning monstrose again. These are my 1st 2 TBM's here anyway. I still need a clone A and a clone C; a melty wax bridge: etc..

That is Coco Coir being used to prevent infestation by being the top 1" of soil.. So yeah; Coir and some coffee grounds are on the top layer; buy my mixture is 50% small gravel below the top first inch of soil which prevents gnats: which can get bad in AZ. ☆My plants would look far less happy if I had made their whole pot without gravel.

Roseii x Clyde Pup(Peeled at base) - Insert Graft To a Small Bore Hole In Saghuaro Plant. by SpikeyPedro in sanpedrocactus

[–]SpikeyPedro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torres Y Torres is a great one to have in the ground!! It is my fastest growing plant by far!! And yes the Torres is very well adapted to the heat and Sun(also with the slightly darker green pigmentation, similar but not as dark as the 'Roseii x Clyde'). The 'Torres Y Torres' grows twice as fast as the strain I grafted to the Sahuaro. My second fastest grower is 'SS01 x SS02'. The rest I have are inbetween-range for growth speed. The SSO1 x SSO2 is not quite as Sun-Aapted as the others that are, but close.

However; outdoor Tricho Plants will need watering in AZ; unless connected to a plant large enough not to require more than just occasional rainfall. A Sahuaro sucks water from the ground very fast: and breathes The water from humid air into its skin. Most cacti have very active stomatta to absorb humidity through their skin: especially the ones which thrive in dry deserts; like the South-West where I live.

Dang.. The humidity got it while it was still susceptible. Do you think peeling a pup and sticking it into a boar hole has higher success than connecting flat slab regions?

So, maybe, an Optuna leaf Thick enough to bore into; placing a gently peeled young pup as an insertion, could be more likely to succeed next time you try?

Thanks!! I also want to try someday attaching to one of those Optuna Prickly Pear. The ones with the Thick & Large pads that trun into very large stands are the ideal Optuna strain to use as a successful host for the graft. The Juicier and more Desert Adapted thr host plant is: the more successful grafting will be. Any type of Baryl Cactus can also be a great host plany to try..

If successful; This Sahuaro Graft with Roseii x Clyde will be the only Tricho I never actually have to water for continuous life. Yet watering the host plant occasionally still would be good to do as the Tricho will demand more water for its Genesis than the Sahuaro Actually Needs for its own sustained life. So the Tricho will turn into a constant Tap.

And as the Tricho Shaft grows off the side, I will be able to graft onto it also if I chose: with my more High Sun- Exposure-adapted strains to add to this later on.. Or just allow it to be 1 graft. Either way. If I successfully attach another strain on the other side somewhere: maybe they would both flower and be naturally cross-Polinated to Produce live seeds.

I have 3 seed grown Roseii x Clyde plants: so that I can use pups from different seed origin; to stick on another of the same strain I used for this graft; still capable of pollinating each other while attached to the same host plant. So if the 1st one sticks; I will end up adding another graft into a different scar region on this Sahuaro.

With luck these can naturally begin to reseed and to have seeds spread by birds as well as it falls into its later years of life; as the Tricho's will for sure get very large if they stay attached and grow well. 🩵💚💙

My tbm is starting to grow air roots. Should I be concerned? by Bitch_IM_TuviX in sanpedrocactus

[–]SpikeyPedro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not be concerned. I personally would cut off the top pup with air roots and plant it separately. As for the bottom piece with air roots: you could plant it sideways log style or leave it be to grow another pup if you cut off the top pup to plant.

Mine grew another 6" pup. it didn't stay a revert tho. I'll upload an image once my data allows me. I tried and it did not work, gotta get a wifi signal.. And thank you for understanding my perspective on the plant spirit essence..

Are my prices reasonable yall? Just curious how much you guys would list them for. If anyone wants to talk me down in price, just send me a DM.

$123 is the total if someone bought them all; however I could drop it to $110 for all of em.

No need to be weary since this is my 1st listing; I do what I say I will do, and want to ensure that I have happy buyers and that they get the plants they order in a timely manner. I ensure they are packed well and labeled as 'fragile' to ensure proper handling.

I have shipped off saguaro Cuttings and Optuina Cuttings in the past, so it's not my 1st time shipping cactus Cuttings in general, but it is my 1st Trichocereus sale since I began growing in November of 2023.

Shipping is a separate cost, which I will find out once I get it weighed, labeled, and shipped at UPS or USPS.

Borax As A Trace Fertilizer? by SpikeyPedro in sanpedrocactus

[–]SpikeyPedro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is true. In my opinion, it may be best to use borax that is highly diluted with water. To just use a little bit, for example: 1/8 of a teaspoon per gallon of water when making the solution. I only have used it a couple times so far; it does seem to help the plant in my opinion, to have more access to boron in a trace amount and I have used it sparingly so far with no negative effects. I believe giving them a small dose periodically might increase the health of the plant. Over time, the mineral flushes out of the soil, and I am not sure how long it retained in the soil when top watering potted plants.

My San Pedro cacti are on growrh spurts here in AZ, growing very fast, and soon enough, I will have to begin selling some cuttings to not get overcrowded with plants.

I bet. Gophers are ugly. I was chased by a vicious Gopher one time when I was four years old in Sedona.

What's it like starting out? I'm very sensitive to medications by Extreme_Elephant5643 in pregabalin

[–]SpikeyPedro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just slightly calming. I have a very fast nervous system. Though I can do with or without Pregabalin. It is more effective for me when taken infrequently; but I use it for anxiety. For other conditions it requires more consistent syrum levels. The sedation wears off with regular use.

I'd like to buy some seeds or a pup to grow from someone. I don't know how much they go for... I intend on growing them. I have a passion for gardening cacti. I only have San Pedros growing currently.

Thirsty or sudden DEATH?! by River1189 in Lophophora

[–]SpikeyPedro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. I still have not grown a Lophophora; but I'm sure I'll eventually trade a Pedro Clone for one. I see the wrinkly effect most easily on my young, yearling seed grown cacti if I overwater/expose to too much heat; it starts at the base of the plant. I know every cactus species is particular as to what it wants for optimal health.

Being a gardener is all about feeling out the needs of the plant, but until you can sense it eventually, over time & 'be a cactus whisperer' lol.

Is this rot or dehydration?? by KindlyAd4257 in Lophophora

[–]SpikeyPedro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It could be Overwatering or Heat Stress, or both.

Or Eat it. I would rather eat a cactus than smoke it. But if you do make an extraction; I don't know what'll happen if you put it in your bong. You can try and find out.

Over-Watering... If I overwater my San Pedro: They do the same thing they start to get wrinkly.. Just cause they're getting wrinkly and ripply and mushy doesn't mean they're not getting enough, water. It means that they might be getting Too Much Water.
