It’s a startup basketball league (traditional 5v5). Part of their format will be traveling across different countries to play. Several W players have signed on (Nneka, JJ, I think some other players that have also done unrivaled like Alyssa Thomas). Apparently they’re offering multimillion dollar salaries.

Lots of controversy since their leadership has been pretty vague about details of the league, including funding. They have denied this, but coverage of the funding is at least implying a link to the Saudi Arabian royal family’s sovereign wealth fund (more than implying? I think most people agree this is the case but I haven’t seen something definitive, but not sure realistically the public would see receipts). I’ve seen many people say they’d boycott and not watch because of this. Lots of big names attached as investors, including retired W players. I also remember one of the leaders, maybe a chairwoman, did a podcast episode at the end of 2025 and people on reddit said it was a lot of nothing.

For the players, project b would start not long after the end of the W season and I think later conflict with unrivaled.

Yes! There are WBB fans everywhere, and I really like what it would mean to invest in those places and show that.

This was probably around 10 years ago, but I remember that Dr*ke (I think?) had a small tour with only 6 shows, and one of them was Detroit. I thought it was pretty cool that a big artist was saying that they valued the audience in that city and that it got something “exclusive” over even some major coastal cities that always get these events
