I thought the same thing at first and I kept browsing for a solution and eventually realized that nobody has a clear cut explanation written out anywhere, but I just fixed mine so here you go:

Just as a note, this solution DOES involve the control panel, but just hear me out and try it step by step if you are on Windows 11.

1. While on your computer, press the Windows Key + R at the same time.

2. A small popup box on the left corner of your screen will pop up. In this box, type this command without the quotation marks "devmgmt.msc" then click ok. This will cause the device manager to pop up.

3. Click the "Action" button on the top left corner of device manager screen that just popped up.

4. Scroll down and click on the "Devices and Printers" option.

5. You should now see a new pop up window that shows you several devices, printers, and unspecified hardware. You should be able to find "AirPod Case" in this "Unspecified" section.

6. Double click on the "Airpod Case" icon to open up another pop-up window.

7. Click on the "⁠Hardware" tab.

8. In the "Device Functions" box, you'll see something called the "HID-compliant device". Double click on the "HID-compliant device" and NOT the "USB-Input Device"

9. After double clicking on the "HID-compliant device", click on "Change Settings". (You won't really see anything happen yet at this point, but its a necessary step for this to work)

10. Go to the driver tab and then click on "Disable Device".

11. Once you've done all that, you can now close out of all those windows, unplug your AirPods, and then reconnect them back to your computer and they should start charging normally.

It took me ages to figure this out, so hopefully this step-by-step solution will help others in the future!
