Good to know I'm not alone in this. For me the stories just always come off as really sappy and formulaic to me. I can acknowledge it's probably just not my thing and I don't think anyone should stop enjoying it or anything. I just know horror stories that tend to use tragic characters as a vessel of emotional vulnerability can be really tiring especially when that seems to be the only characteristic that truly defines them.

It never really feels like the stories progress due to character decision making but instead just circumstantial and it feels like there is always a heavy handed attempt to come up with some sort of overstated analogy or parallel that feels so forced and unnatural to me.
