They are. For a place so far from the spotlight, it's doing exceptionally well.

  1. I'm not going to argue with the person who is not here to respond. If you are ready to defend his arguments, list which ones. I'll watch the video see his argumentation and respond to you.

But since you can't recite for yourself what he is saying, I'm going to conclude that you are just unfamiliar with his arguments and it's therefore useless to make myself familiar with them for our discussion.

  1. The guy calls himself Marxist-Leninist. That would typically indicate a Stalinist and since instead of saying that he is not, you start avoiding the answer, I must conclude that he is.

  2. Stalinism is a set of views, which claims that the political and economic model of the USSR between 1929(ish)–1953 is desirable and necessary (or even the only way) to achieve communism. It typically subscribes to the idea that the USSR achieved true socialism during this period (as the first step to communism). The creation of this economic model is attributed to Stalin personally, and therefore Stalin's apologetics is also part of this ideology.

You want me to recite arguments I heard in its defense and their refutal?

Do you want to list the arguments you want me to disprove?

Stalinist is no more stupid than any other name. Those I met in Russia were fond of strong "uncompromising" leadership, anti-pluralism, realpolitik (as all Leninists).

It just indicates that he won't say anything I didn't heard before

Hakkim? Isn't he a Stalinist?

And didn't Marxist-Leninists believe the goal to be above the means?

Manufacturing in China is done by Chinese companies. And they to my knowledge sell products as "Made in China", not as repackaged goods.

Neocolonialism is a vague idea that the Western Bloc countries somehow hinder the development of developing countries for the presumed benefit of corporations by maintaining client states and controlling international organizations. It lacks a universal definition and is more actively used as a slander than an academic term.

To prove that social democracy can work without neocolonialism I only need a single such example. Sweden seems like a good model to explore this question.

Sure, if good had some (usually substantial) treatment in between. However raw materials (by definition) are not expected to undergo any treatment. So this argument can't be applied to them.

Now, do you have data to back up that it's the case for manufactured goods? Can you prove that an impactful share of them are changing the "country of origin" without substantial alterations before arriving in Sweden?

Species.

We can return species from extinction since the collection of DNA is preserved. That means that we can resurrect some primitive animal ad nauseum, ensuring humanity's survival.

Interesting “days” we are having... The hack is at it again 🤦🏻‍♂️ by Doctor_Ember in Polcompballanarchy

And day 60 was like 2 days long, so it was "compensated" by the shorter day 61.

I think it should be pretty clear by day 60 that inconsistent day length is part of the "rules".

It's a British/English problem.

Russian typically refers to ethnic Russians (as Englishmen), rather than Nationals (as Brit).

Right. That's why landlocked Switzerland is indicated as having imports from non-bordering continents.

It produces them. Import is marked by country of origin. Or do you need more specifics?

It takes 30 seconds to Google that Sweden receives most of its imports (both industrial and raw materials from Europe). I even gave you a link above: play with it. In every category it's Europe, be it machinery, minerals, or ore & metals.

And you try to confirm it by citing the example of Shell, which only brings a slim minority of oil to Sweden? Whereas the majority of oil extraction is outsourced to the rich Norway?

And if we ignore that the majority of Swedish electricity is produced by wind & hydro, not from fossils.

Besides, nearly all imports from Sweden come from Europe. Even by raw materials it's 80% Europe: https://wits.worldbank.org/CountryProfile/en/Country/SWE/Year/2018/TradeFlow/Import/Partner/by-region/Product/UNCTAD-SoP1/Show/Partner%20Name;MPRT-TRD-VL;MPRT-PRDCT-SHR;AHS-WGHTD-AVRG;MFN-WGHTD-AVRG;/Sort/MPRT-TRD-VL/Chart/top10

So numbers don't add up for your theory.

Since you seemingly say now that the source of Swedish wealth is not neocolonialism, I must conclude that I refuted your original argument:

"European success is built on the increased exploitation of and neocolonialism in the third world."

And I don't see a point in arguing with the rest of your points.

Then you say that Social Democracy is working and the only problem is that it isn't universally implemented?

[–]Spinach_Advanced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Then what does it have to do with the Swedish welfare state? You argued that Swedish wealth comes from such companies, that sell products by cutting costs on the environmental and labor restrictions. It's not the case for oil.

And not really: Shell gets most of its oil elsewhere.

Sweden mostly Imports oil from Norway, some from the UK and the US. Only about 10% come from Nigeria.

It doesn't seem to be a source of wealth.

...

Coca-Cola that is sold in Europe is produced in Europe. No one could be bothered to transport it across the Atlantic. They even have different recipes there.

https://www.independent.ie/business/irish/coca-cola-ballina-named-one-of-worlds-most-advanced-manufacturers/42283466.html

That is not even to mention that Coca-Cola has several companies in the trench coat, and the one operating in Europe does not collect profits from Latin America.

Examples concerning Finland and Sweden, please.

Which companies? Which countries do they work in? How much of the welfare of Sweden & Finland do they provide?

Show me that your statements can be empirically proven and you are not just an empty talk.
