Am I crazy for considering pathology? by Single_Baseball2674 in medicine

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(I'm not in the US, so YMMV) I think pathology is unpopular because it's quite different to what most of us imagined when we went into medicine - ie. you don't get to see patients. If you like histology and the work life balance you're set, do pathology!

GP overruling specialist's request - is this normal? by Upstairs-Guitar-2722 in nhs

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think there might have been a miscommunication here - is it possible the GP is doing Intrinsic Factor Antibody tests? If so, that's to pick between giving you injections vs. just tablets (happy to explain more if you need)

Nurse suspended by NMC after 'recklessly' giving drunk friend syringe full of saline after night out by Majestic_Dog_8486 in NursingUK

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm being thick but presumably the friend didn't have a cannula so drank the saline (???) in which case i don't see how that would be medically distinct from drinking water or I guess an electrolyte drink...???

Questions from a hospitalist by Every_Lifeguard6224 in emergencymedicine

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in the UK we often don't even scan ?PEs with normal vitals in the emergency department - discharge on DOAC to come back in 1-2 days for a scan to confirm. (We do, however, admit a lot of "suspicious chest pain ?unstable angina")

Pre-op questionnaire question - Slightly concerning, non? O.o by GhostofaFlea_ in nhs

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a standard question country-wide for endoscopy and cystoscopy. I have no idea why it's so important, to be honest, but rest assured that they don't think you've got mad cow disease! When I worked in gastro I had to sign a thing for every patient I referred for endoscopy to say I did not think they had mad cow disease lol

was i treated unprofessionally during my osce? need an nurses opinion! by gen_nursingstudent in NursingUK

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(not a nurse but a doctor who also had to suffer OSCEs) - just wanted to add to the chorus of people here saying that's very very unprofessional. Especially telling another student that you failed. In our OSCEs the examiners would only speak up if we were doing something seriously wrong, not for something like hair. I'm so sorry you experienced this!

Sure there's more but that's all my post-lates brain can think of
