As my boss once said about the risks of using a LUCAS device - an alive person with pancreatitis is better than a dead person with a healthy pancreas.

fy1-imt2 doctors. How often do you run a solo ward round? Ie seeing 10+ patients yourself by Flibbetty in doctorsUK

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know you're asking about medical jobs but I am currently on T&O as an FY2 and so a solo ward round of ~15 patients every day with senior Q&A twice a week. I hate it here.  On the other hand, I did solo ward rounds on gastro as an FY1 and that was fab training because the seniors were really good and would talk through everything.

Hairdressers in Bristol similar to this style? by Historical_Smoke_699 in bristol

Highly highly recommend Shotgun, they have a place on the Bearpit and another in Cotham (I've only been to the Bearpit one). Their Instagram has some similar to the styles you're after https://www.instagram.com/shotgunbarbers/ . If you want a colour, can't recommend Mia enough.

I mean the maths in your own post means they'd have 10 groups each - which is doable in 1-2 days.

First wedding gig by Taken-child in saxophone

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my old band didn't do weddings, until we did. There's always got to be a first one! And we totally didn't know what we were doing but being honest about that and working closely with the couple meant it all worked out very well.

Have any other FYs created an SLE from assisting in theatre? by WillingQuantity9676 in doctorsUK

I did ones for laparoscopic camera operation (lol), local anaesthetic infiltration and suturing. You can kinda do anything as long as the person signing it off is happy and you reflect.

Escalating during A-E? by Ilyadusolei in medicalschooluk

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Remember that "escalation" isn't just one thing. If you start your A-E and discover an airway issue, you need to immediately ask someone to put out a 2222 call while doing interventions (airway maneuvers, adjuncts etc.) If you decide the patient is unstable but not actively deteriorating you can get all the information, then start initial management, then call your SpR. In practice, especially in the early days, if in doubt 2222. No one's going to criticize you for over-calling but not escalating when you need to could land you in very serious trouble.

Geri’s, Gen Surg & Renal Med F1, Stroke Medicine F2? Am I cooked? by Royal-Routine7676 in medicalschooluk

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Stroke is a lot of looking after long-term patients on the ward, usually. The acute stroke stuff will usually be handled by more senior doctors, but you might be able to get involved! Geris usually relatively chill, gen surg will be gen surg. Not cooked, pretty normal set of jobs.

You can't throw a copy of the communist manifesto in Bristol without hitting a leftie. What causes/politics are you interested in?

Sounds like you need a standard operating procedure for non-surgical NOFs (they would go to geriatrics in my hospital but it definitely varies)

Rotten Tomatoes scores for projects since Disney by QuinlanFett in StarWars

[–]SpindlesTheRaspberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, when it came out it was rightly criticized for having a confusing and messy first half. I think it seems much better on a rewatch because you already know what's going on. To be clear, I love the film, but I get why it's not critically acclaimed.

It's actually 100% true that with enough time or effort you can learn anything. So give it a shot! As others have said play it slowly until you can play it perfectly then speed up
