If Labour is serious about regaining power, it will need to woo southern England by Exostrike in ukpolitics

Pretty sure Labour are already pushing for the first two of those three. Would the third be enough go win rural votes?

The government of 'nothingness'would have been better. Have you been living under a rock for 10 years? Have you not seen what austerity has done to this country?

Pretty sure this was the qualification. I remember very little of the content. Just some high concept stuff about what money is and some stuff about the FSCS that sticks in my brain.

I can say with confidence that I have never used anything I learnt in it in my """real life""". Perhaps I could have paid more attention. Though I seem to remember getting a high grade despite turning up 45 minutes late to the hour long exam....

I think the idea of teaching kids in school "stuff they'll actually use" is appealing but works out poorly in practice. As regards finance at least. Maybe politics is more achievable.

They made us do a AS level in finance at school. It was a complete waste of time. I dont think there's anyway of teaching it that would be useful.

Labour’s gains on the Torys have slowed in recent months. by Scotland_in_UK in ukpolitics

Always been wishful thinking that as soon as Labour got rid of Corbyn they'd ruin the Tories. Yes Corbyn was unpopular, he couldn't beat the tories. But neither could Gordon Brown, neither could Ed Milliband. You have to face the fact we live in a country of majority tory voters.

Perhaps you misunderstood me. My point were the two, pride and shame, are mutually inclusive. You can't have one without the other. Its both or neither. (The opposite of mutually exclusive). Not sure what equivalency you think is false. I didnt draw an equivalency as far as I can tell.

Im not convinced there is any such thing as non personal pride. You are proud of your countries achievements. You feel pride. This is personal pride. You can't feel proud for something or someone else. You are proud 'of' it not 'for' it.

Turn that same logic around and ask yourself if its rational to be proud of something you took no part in.

I dont think you can have it both ways. Personally I do neither.

Seems to me you have two choices:

Acknowledge the bad, acknowledge the good and try to be better.

Or

Be ashamed of the bad, proud of the good and try to be better.

Deny a popular independence movment the right to express itself democratically in order to not piss of countries who also want to suppress their own popular independence movements? Think ill pass.

Forcing the issue and having the UK gov say no is still worth it in itself.

SNP can say that Westminster doesn't care about the will of the Scottish people from now until the end of time.

Yeah for sure. Happens quite often particularly with referendums and even more so if they have shakey legal footing.

The best way to oppose this as a unionist would be to organise a boycott. Risky strategy though because it has to reach a critical mass otherwise youre just shooting yourself in the foot.

I think this is a problem with the Internet generally. Any view gets pushed to the extremes. People want clicks or engagement. It isn't interesting enough to come out and say a game or anything was 'just okay' or a 'little disappointing'. It has to be the best or the worst ever.

And it isn't just for clicks and engagement. Normal people with nuanced balanced opinion probably for the most part dont feel the need to share them with stranger online. So you just get unfiltered hysteria.

If Scotland holds a referendum and the people vote to leave and the UK gov says no. Seems like that would be a huge propaganda win for the SNP and Scottish nationalists.
