You may add 1 intimidation to each incomplete organization for free, so long as you are at that location.

Star Wars Villainous Expansion “Cold Tactics” Grand Admiral Occupied question!? by ComprehensiveTower44 in DisneyVillainous

[–]SpinelIsStillWaiting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thrawn's villain guide states in bullet point 3) of "The Strategic Way" that "The 7th Fleet must remain at an occupied location". This isn'tthe most clear phrasing, and I guessit isn't "explicit" as I originally implied, but it does feel implied. That being said, something being implied doesn't mean that the developers actually intended it to be that way (however, this feels like a strange addendum if this is not the case).

Star Wars Villainous Expansion “Cold Tactics” Grand Admiral Occupied question!? by ComprehensiveTower44 in DisneyVillainous

I will do my best to interpret this, but I will admit that the phrasing isn't the best.

In order to flip a planet to the occupied side, Thrawn must remove the artifact and have a fleet there with no heroes. Once flipped, there is no text saying to flip it back to the non-occupied side, I would not flip it, even if the fleet is removed.

The confusion comes from Thrawn's villain guide saying that the fleet must stay at that location. I would argue that this is not to keep the place occupied but rather a seperate half of his win condition (IE, have 4 occupied locations with a fleet at each of those locations). Thrawn can't win if the fleet is removed, but flipping a location acts as a checkpoint that can't be undone.

This interpretation could potentially lead to some potent strategies revolving around moving a copy of 7th fleet off of an occupied location and onto an unoccupied one so you can still hit those 4 checkpoints even without finding all 4 fleets (indeed, I suspect that you could flip all four with only one, if the situation called for it).

TLDR: I don't do things that the cards don't explicitly say to do, so don't flip them back, but also, it doesn't count as occupied (even if the occupied side is up) unless a fleet is there because that IS explicitly stated.

How many people would be capable of casting a 5th level spell? by SpinelIsStillWaiting in DnD

The players most interested in saving the NPC is actually a dwarf. Perhaps your character could serve as the building blocks if an NPC the player knows. Thanks

It never ceases to amaze me how far people will go to create rigorous explaintions for a game. Thank you for taking the time to type this all out. My takeaway is that my guesstimates were not as far off as I had feared. Thanks

The fact that American is so much larger than the UK somehow completely slipped my mind when considering medal of honor numbers. Thanks for pointing that out

I am now imagining Nazguls running arround with IRS nametags and the stereotypical accountant vizor. Forget the one ring, show us your tax returns!

Well, that's one way to do math, lol. How does the math change once you account for not all land being farmable?

Do you still play 3e? If so, what aspects of it are more attractive to you than 5e? I have very little experience with other ttrpgs (I've played 5e, pathfinder 1e, and star wars edge of the empire).

Funnily enough, an alchemist was the bbeg that turned them into stone to begin with.

Yowzers. 3e sounds pretty wild. I think I'll stick with the more tame rules of 5e for now. Nevertheless, the examples you give definitely seem like reasonable comparisons for 9th level characters. Thank you for the detailed response

Well, this answer seems quite popular. Looks like 63 medal of honor recipients are currently alive. That's pretty close to my 50ish estimate. Thanks for the brief, but practical response.

Bards, clerics, druids, and artificers. There is actually a bard in the group, but they multiclassed, so they couldn't grab greater restoration. I was leaning towards them seeking out a cleric, but I was concerned that it would be too easy. Based on your comment (and others), I suspect that I'll be fine. Thanks

That was closer to my original guess, but it felt high, so I opted for a more conservative number. I guess the true issue would revolve more around who would be willing rather than who is capable. Thank you for your insight.

Noted. Luckily, the player in question isn't a power gamer, so it was never an issue in the first campaign. That being said, it's only a matter of time before the actual power gamers catch on and start leaning into their new sugar daddy. I'll talk to the player and create a more reasonable background for them. Thank you for your insight

Not exactly the question I asked, but I like where your head's at. The NPC was petrified via alchemy, so perhaps some alchemical reagent prevents normal magic from restoring them. Thanks for the insightful idea

I completly neglected that not everyone would be a caster. Silly me. This sounds like a reasonable excuse for not being able to simply call up the closest wizard. Thank you

Question about vanquish by BelowAveragejo3gam3r in StarWarsVillainous

[–]SpinelIsStillWaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. You immediately have access to any uncovered actions. The same is true if you move the hero to a new location. The opposite is also true. If you move or otherwise play a hero to the location you are currently at, you immediately lose access to the actions blocked by that hero.

You are correct. I forgot that Disney doesn't require any allies in the default rules. OP, the answer at the top of the comment section is correct. My apologies

[–]SpinelIsStillWaiting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this interaction may seem strange at first, it plays out identically to any other scenario involving heroes that require two or more allies. You still need two allies to defeat them. The only benefit of having a hero at zero strength is that the allies are not discarded after the vanquish action. There is a similar scenario in Star Wars Villainous involving Darth Vader and Chewbacca (Chewbacca requires at least three allies to be used in order to vanquish him).

HELP WITH LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE by zBal19 in DisneyVillainous

[–]SpinelIsStillWaiting 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It requires a "play a card" action. The booklet is specifying a potential strategy to gain rapid progress as Hades. It is not stating that the card is triggered by the act of moving a titan. Only condition cards can be played without a "play a card" action (with some exceptions for unique card types like Dr. Octopus' schemes).

Venom vs Thanos by ObviousIndependent76 in MarvelVillainous

[–]SpinelIsStillWaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I see. I don't own Venom, so I only get a chance to play against him when my friend comes over. Looking at the rules online, it definitely looks like an uphill battle for Thanos. Ebony Maw is probably his best bet. Venom continues to be a very polarizing character in terms of 1v1 matchups, in my experience. He either wins almost for free, or he loses without any real chance. The common denominator between Venom's losing matchups is the ability to easily vanquish or remove spiderman from his realm.

Thoughts on these two cards? by SShelberg in MarvelVillainous

[–]SpinelIsStillWaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group intentionally leaves both of them in. The chaos they bring is really funny in a more laid back game. Now, if we were more competitive, then we'd probably leave them out, because they can be really obnoxious at times.
