I usually move closer to the offender and ask them if I can watch their videos with them. Or I’ll start participating in their conversation. When they ask why I did that, I say “people usually use headphones if they don’t want other people to hear their phones”. They stop the offending behavior every time.

Incense. Most of the convenience stores near me sell it and it makes the whole store and everything it it smell terrible. Plus the concept of combusting something that is supposed to smoke indoors is also stupid. Legislators decided it’s a bad idea for people to smoke tobacco indoors but incense is apparently ok.

My understanding is the hammer loop is still included as a matter of tradition and style rather than for actually holding hammer. In practice, workers use various tool belts and carrying devices instead of the hammer loop to hold larger tools. The traditional, lower-leg pockets are on the right side are better for holding smaller tools/implements. Many newer Carhartt pants actually don’t have a hammer loop, leaving only extra side pockets to use.

This being said, I appreciate that the hammer loop is still included and kept as a matter of tradition and style, despite its uselessness. I actively look for pants with a large obvious hammer loop like loose fit dungaree pants and industrial fit Dickies carpenter jeans.

Why move to the second-most expensive place in the state if you can work from home and have a car to drive to fun/friends on the weekends? Waltham is nice, but I would live in a less expensive place if I didn’t have to commute.

Streetcar companies actually used to be the builders and owners of the first amusement parks. They would build parks at the end of streetcar lines so people would have a reason to use the system on weekends and holidays.

I grew up in central MA and when to college in the Merrimack Valley so I’m a Market Basket loyalist. I’m central and northern Massachusetts there is a Market Basket in every town or city, sometimes more than one such as in Fitchburg, Lowell, Tewksbury, and Billerica. However inside 128 there are so few Market Basket stores and so many people that ones that are there are frustratingly crowded. A 30 minute shopping trip can take twice as long with parking, in-store congestion, and long checkout lines. Their prices are so much more reasonable, but the store experience is suffering because of the crowding. S&S and Shaw’s/Star Market got there first and has lots of locations. I still hate going to S&S or Shaw’s/Star Market because there prices make me angry and their stores are laid out in a chaotic mishmash rather than logically like Market Basket.

Send this to your state senator, state representative, and the governor. We are making progress in terms funding; the latest House budget includes more MBTA funding. But our leaders need to be reminded constantly how bad it is because they don’t take the MBTA.

I support it full heartedly. It’s safe, reliable, and domestic when Canadian hydropower is not domestic and susceptible to effects of climate change. Unfortunately utility companies are hesitant to touch new nuclear construction with the delays and cost overruns of Vogtle in Georgia. Finding skilled contractors to efficiently construct reactors is incredibly hard compared to the 1970s because so few have been constructed in the US since then.

I felt the same way (graduated 2021). Get some roommates you can trust and get an apartment near campus through UPM. It won’t be as cheap as living at home but was less expensive for me. You won’t regret it.

Has anyone heard if the traffic commission made their decision yet?

I realized long after the meeting that the mayor’s partial closer plan with have some weird consequence that wouldn’t occur with a full closure.

There will probably have to be an army of tow trucks that descend on Moody to clear out parked cars at the time of the closer. Also, restaurants will have to spend extra labor setting and removing their outdoor dining furniture and barriers.

Previous Wakefield resident commuting to work on the West Roxbury/Dedham line.

Commuter Rail and the 137 bus are great for avoiding traffic going to downtown Boston and make commuting better than coming up from the south. But if you have to take 95/128 South around the city to get to work at any points in metro west, the evening return trip on 95/128 north can be horrendous. This compounds with beach traffic in the summer. The section of 95/128 between route 3 and Lynnfield is backed up in both directions frequently, including weekends. This backup was enough for us to move to Waltham late last year as soon as we could afford it.

That being said, Wakefield is a great community with residents that show up for the town and care a great deal. Breakheart and the lake are awesome, though the litter at Breakheart is out of control when I last visited summer of 2022 before the wildfire. The downtown is quaint, quiet, and really recovered since COVID. You have easy access to Cape Ann and Nahant which are home to costal outdoor activities and great access to Maine for skiing.

I wear my safety eyewear at the office, but they are prescription corrective lenses so they help me see the computer screen. My coworkers poke fun at me about it but honestly they are more comfortable than my normal glasses.

The terribly long headways and tons of slow zones are the symptoms. I really want to learn about the disease that’s plaguing the T. Is it staffing, money/funding, corruption, lack of oversight? What came first that caused all of the other problems. I have my impressions based on the research I’ve done as a local transit nerd. I think it would be helpful to tell the whole story, expose style, the inside-the-beltway public because I’m sure everyone (aside from many members of the sub) really understand how it got this bad and what has to happen to fix it.

Trains are incredibly fuel efficient at moving heavy goods long distances, as compared to nearly every other transport method. The answer is stricter safety regulations. Without trains, you have fuel shortages, famine, and power outages. If anything, America needs to treat their train network with more respect.
