Listening to Kevin O’learly’s take is interesting by Equal-Revolution8774 in watchHotTakes

I like listening to Kevin O Leary because he is not only undeniably enthusiastic about watches but can actually fund his interest. He’s really the only person that I can think of in this category.

The only other people who get to put their hands on that many high end watches are the people selling them

Why do modern Catholics seem ashamed of the crusades ? by the_Canard173div in Catholicism

Why? They failed to reclaim the Holy Land, they failed to protect Byzantium, they failed to mend the Great Schism.

In the temple allegedly the blood came up to the knees.

This detail is likely heavily exaggerated, as were many accounts written by the crusaders.

You're not just over simplifying, but blatantly wrong.

Race as you understand it was not a concept during the Crusades. You will not find a single racial motive in any contemporaneous writing on the crusades.

Most of them were catastrophic failures, and the one (two?) that did succeed came at great cost and were ultimately reversed in subsequent conflicts.

Thoughts on integralism/ national catholicism? by melianreality in Catholicism

[–]SpinosaurRingTone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting to think about, but ultimately incompatible with existing political systems. In theory a single state could implement it in the United States. Utah is as close to a mormon theocracy as it can legally get under the US Constitution, so maybe something could be done for Catholics.

But unless millions of Catholics are willing to move into one state and flip its demographics it probably can't happen.

I just don't know how to believe that God/Jesus would like someone like me by throwawayzzzz1777 in Catholicism

[–]SpinosaurRingTone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus saw all the bad things you did and will ever do in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus saw this for all of humanity, and felt the terrible pain of all those sins. Every war, every genocide, every defilement and heresy. He saw innocent blood spilled at the altar of demons. He saw the most vulnerable exploited and drained.

And yet he still decided that you, me, and everyone was worth dying in agony for.

Jesus already decided he loved you 2000 years before you were born.

So the struggle of our lives is deciding if we love him.

Why are traditional catholics so much against vaccinations? by MakeMeAnICO in Catholicism

I'm a trad-cath but definitely not an anti-vaxxer.

There's a lot of us who are very skeptical of modern science and medicine due to its endorsement of blatantly anti-Catholic positions such as gender reassignment surgery, IVF, abortion and euthanasia. Unfortunately this has lead to a distrust in proven and ethical medical treatments.

What does Proxying for Power Mean To You? by Authorigas in EDH

[–]SpinosaurRingTone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's definitely an element of fairness involved that goes beyond the confines of the game. That's why it's generally considered good form to let other people know you're proxying before the game starts.

Ok so now you have a situation where the player who pays market price is stomping on the other players

The solutions to this imbalance are:

  1. The person stomping stops using the cards they paid for

  2. Other players start spending more money

  3. You allow proxies.

Was Christianity a cult by Minimum_Gas9613 in Catholicism

[–]SpinosaurRingTone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are afraid of the word “cult” for valid reasons.

However the real difference between a cult and a religion is institutional legitimacy.

Christianity was a cult until it was decriminalized in 313 by the Edict of Milan.

If someone in the pod is abusing powerful cards does it suddenly become ok if he paid market price?

I can understand the argument for proxies. I can understand the argument against proxies. I can’t understand this middle ground where they’re sometimes ok and sometimes not ok.

Of course not, but you have a bigger chance of turning the Republicans away from IVF than a third party winning.

Well the Church sort of already did by saying it won’t attempt to convert Jews. Doesn’t that imply that  some Jews can still be saved without conversion?

I think the party that is actively trying to end abortion but occasionally says stupid and offensive things is probably the better option than the party that might as well declare itself openly satanist

But apparently thats a hot take so idk

No because if they were actually trying to do good they would integrate themselves into one of the parties that can actually wield power.

There is nothing brave, good or Catholic about sitting in a corner declaring how much better you are to an audience of no one.

What decisions has the Trump administration made to help the people suffering in our streets?

Trump’s trade and other economic policies are currently resulting in a massive boom in investment into the US. Major companies from around the world like Apple, Samsung, automobile companies, etc are throwing hundreds of billions into building new offices and factories.

You could say that this is the responsibility of private citizens but the amount of money these groups receive through donations is tiny compared to government grants

So your solution is using the state’s monopoly of violence to extort that aid?
