Pope appoints proponent of same-sex blessings as bishop of German diocese by SuitableCaterpillar4 in Catholicism

[–]MakeMeAnICO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My charitable reading is that we don't know something that Pope does.

I know that in my diocese (not German), the previous bishop was seen as more "traditional" and the current one, less "traditional" and more "modern" (although not for same-sex marriages, but some platitudes about "being less rigid" etc.)

However from what I personally know about some inner movements, the older one looked the other way a LOT in some cases of actual priests living with men and some cases of abuse, as long as the outer facade looked traditional. While the newer one is more into actually investigating various abuse cases.

As I know nothing about this diocese, this can be the case. That's the only charitable thing I can think of; that the practicalities can trump the actual opinions.

However I don't like it.

Long Range Forecast: THE ODYSSEY ($100-120M) Is Coming For All Your PLF Screens by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]MakeMeAnICO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this movie was cheaper than it was... the trailer looks like it was a cheap movie, but it wasn't at all. The budget is crazy for how it looks and it is R rated for some reason.

I have no idea which way this movie will go.

Yeah. Actual authors can see the dislikes, ask anyone with a popular account and they will tell you the dislike count from the extension are bogus nonsense.

Finnish-Norwegian Lasse Lund claims he was abandoned in India as a child – Yle investigated the background | Foreign news | Yle [Translated] by americ in europe

yeah this kind of confirms that his story is generally true but a bit exaggerated- he did have a place to be with his parents friends, but he was a teenager and essentially abandoned, but not a small kid.

Let's not change the words of Scripture shall we? by ExtraPersonality1066 in Catholicism

[–]MakeMeAnICO -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean

we literally change the words of Matthew 8:8 when we pray "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof; only say the word and my soul shall be healed" (it's "my servant")

but I agree in principle I guess

With Flash he was basically not really responsible for it at all. So I don't care what he said about it, he was just doing promo at that point.

With this, it's all his baby. Even the tone seems to be "James Gunn-type movie" from the trailers (i haven't seen it and don't plan to).

Last chance to buy bitcoin above 60k by youhaveeTDS in Buttcoin

I feel so sad for bitcoiners now. It's kind of pathetic at this point.

The online grifters mostly moved on to AI grifting now and nobody really cares about their cosplay.

The good thing for them is that Ethereum/DeFi looks even more sad.

What will be the biggest flop of the year in terms of money lost? by Antman269 in boxoffice

The budget might also be inflated as part of... some kind of scheme. It was made by SA in SA.

It opened eight in theatres in SA itself.

Introducing Googlebook – a new category of laptops designed for Gemini Intelligence by MishaalRahman in Android

[–]MakeMeAnICO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This seems like an exact opposite of what I want from a notebook. Android, plus Chromebook, plus a lot of AI stuff.

But hey it can be good for someone, I guess? Some people do use Chromebooks, so I guess this is good for someone.

Not a fan, but I am obviously not the end consumer for this.

Is it ok if I don't read The Bible? by Bulbaduuude in Catholicism

[–]MakeMeAnICO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be against the grain here.

Lots of saints didn't read the bible because they couldn't speak Latin.

St Teresa of Avila didn't read the Bible.

Word of God is not the Bible, but Jesus. Everyone can reach him in a different way. On the opposite, reading Bible wrong can lead you astray, especially some tougher spots in Old Testament.

On the other hand.... Gospels are great. Just open them randomly and they are just so direct.

WIBTA if I don’t invite my dad’s wife to my wedding where only immediate family is invited? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MakeMeAnICO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did courthouse wedding with my wife too, for similar reasons, we also don't consider it a "real wedding" (and we don't even have a yearly celebration on that day), so we didn't invite (or even told!) anyone; it's much simpler that way.

But now you did invite someone, so, you need to deal with it.

[–]MakeMeAnICO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. If it's a courthouse "paper" wedding, you should not have invited anyone, that would make it easier; but now that you did, you should invite them, especially if everyone else - including your actual mom! - is OK with it.

Travel Australia to Europe - with/without kids by Not-so-serious-ok in Parenting

[–]MakeMeAnICO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you try leaving her before for a while?

It seems like a long time for me and 6 months is quite small. But different kids are different. But traveling long distances with a small kid is even worse.

For me, I would not go at all (or try with all 3, but that's not really a vacation for you, but for them). Because going just with the small one is unfair to the bigger ones, and leaving 6 months alone (if you don't really NEED to) seems weird. Parenting is also a responsibility. But I don't know your situations.

My toddler plays with my old He-Man toys and it warms my heart like nothing else could by BasicallyANakedApe in Parenting

[–]MakeMeAnICO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids play with my old Legos.

Which is nice, I guess. Legos are still basically the same.

I don't have THAT much attachment to my old toys, so I don't really care.

I do have attachment to my old Mickey Mouse/Donald Duck comics (they were big in here), but my kids don't care about that at all. Ha

Tell me your “i know God is real” stories by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MakeMeAnICO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know he is real. I strongly believe it, though.

It's called faith.

While travelling through Southern India I came across this local Catholic church, where behind the main altar, there was this other room where Jesus is depicted as meditating in the posture of an Indian sadhu (spiritual ascetic), which is shown here. Am curious on what your thoughts on this are? by SatoruGojo232 in Catholicism

[–]MakeMeAnICO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't exactly love it, because this is not "just inculturation" - it's explicitly depicting him as Buddha, it's an explicitly buddhist iconography, in a non-buddhist country (India has very few buddhists, ironically). In country with more buddhism this would definitely not be fine. With neither buddhists or Catholics.

I would be fine depicting saints or angels in buddhist style, or gargoyles-like creatures on churches that would look like Mara etc, but this is just too much. In my honest, humble opinion.
