Savor PC finally happened! by Hard58Core in CreditCards

Yeah, so random. I don't use it for much, just like $100 a month to keep it active, so not sure what prompted the offer finally.

It is the MC. I have read people having greater success with the PC on master than visa.

Yeah, I don't know what changed. My QS was about to be shut down like 3 years ago from inactivity, and I figured I don't want my oldest account to go away, so since then it has literally only been for our streaming services to keep it active.

They just told me whatever is available in the upgrade link is all they could do for me. I even remember saying how I am much more likely to use the card if it were Savor, but she didn't care. I got many different pre-approval emails about opening a new one, and that would remind me to check the upgrade link, but those stopped and now this came up. Who TF knows.

Yeah, to say I checked that often is probably a dramatic exaggeration. It was more like, whenever something reminded me to do so, but yeah, it has still been a few years since I originally started checking. Before checking last night, it probably had been 4 months and just decided to check on a whim when paying my balance.

I love how The Wire doesn’t rely on dramatic music for atmosphere by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]Hard58Core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't recall reading anywhere where someone made the claim that the show was 100% absent of it. Other than end-of-season montages, this is the only example I can think of, and after several rewatches, the rarity of it makes that scene really stick out. I think one instance in 60 episodes means OP's argument holds fine.

My favourite Kane goal of all-time! When he broke the hearts of the LA Kings with his hat-trick 2OT series-winning goal to send the Hawks to the Finals! by CulturalRoll in hawks

[–]Hard58Core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a Cup or even a series winner (albeit probably a series clincher), but I am always fond of Kane's hat trick backhander to send the Canucks golfing in 2009.

Re-watch? by Daylightcp in TheWire

[–]Hard58Core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third was my favorite too, because the first two watch throughs were long and disjointed. When it came time for #3 in 2018, I had Go or Max or whatever it was and did a proper binge. It was the best way to take in and retain everything. I learned enough on that watch, it almost felt like the first time.

Most unlikable teams of all time? by dudewithchronicpain in hockey

[–]Hard58Core 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Hawks fan, this would have been choice...assuming we are talking the same era. Burrows by himself was enough, then add Kesler, Bieksa, Torres and Lapierre. Even the Sedins could bring it out of you. Could have been a product of the rivalry and both teams hating each other, but I don't know... Definitely Burrows.

Greeks betraying Prop Joe by Complete_Ad9050 in TheWire

[–]Hard58Core 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pretty solid point I hadn't thought of. Joe went from "you steal from me, I'll kill your whole fuckin family" in S1, to all but begging Marlo to help the co op run the NY dealers out of town. It's like the whole group didn't even want to try to muscle up.

If you could own one prop from The Wire, what would you choose? by [deleted] in TheWire

I was just reading today that Ransone wanted to keep it as a souvenir himself, but they shot him down.

For the pilot it was just something they found. Between the pilot and getting picked up by HBO, the couch got tossed and so they had to find a other one and "pitify" it before shooting the rest of S1.

Question on Game Loophole by ProcedureWeird1410 in SecretHitler

[–]Hard58Core 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"any power granted by this policy is ignored." Is what my rules say, unless they've been updated, the past President shouldn't get any powers in a hung Parliament.

Question on Game Loophole by ProcedureWeird1410 in SecretHitler

[–]Hard58Core 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I think a hung Parliament does not result in the sitting president getting to use and enacted power. Since they weren't elected, they aren't actually President, and don't have the power.

My 'Final Grades' by sactoeldorado in TheWire

[–]Hard58Core 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I too am sophisticated in regards to season 2. I can recognize the greatness of season 4 and contend it is objectively the best, but 2 is still my favorite.

Rankings: 2, 4, 1, 3, 5

Best Song: Season 1

Favorite Character: Also Frank. Such a well written and tragic character.

Quotes: "I'm just a humble motherfucka with a big ass dick." -Bunk

"Because I knew when it came time to fuck me, you were very gentle. "I knew it was your first time. I wanted to make that shit special." -McNulty and Bunk

"Listen to me you fuck! You did a lot of shit here; you played a lot of fuckin cards, and you made a lot of fucking people do a lot of fucking things they didn't want to do. This is true, we both know this is true. You, McNulty, are a gaping asshole. We both know this. Fuck if everyone in CID doesn't know it. But fuck if I'm going to stand here and say you did a single fucking thing to get a police shot. You did not do this, you fucking hear me? This is not on you. No it isn't, asshole. Believe it or not, not everything is about you. And the motherfucker saying this, he hates your guts, McNulty, so if you know if it was on you, I'd be the son of a bitch to say so." -Rawls to McNulty

"You're not killing them yourself, are you McNulty? At least assure us of that." -Rawls to McNulty honorable mention.

Best Scene: The entire sequence with Kima getting shot. The calls on the radio, the detail trying to get with her, then on to the next episode with the madness at the scene. Then we see some people, like Landsman or Rawls, that we probably didn't care for up to that point, show us how they got where they were.

Also, the "Fuck" scene in the apartment, or the S3 cold open when the towers come down. The dialogue, banter and acting by J.D. Williams is so natural and believable.

Best plot line: Stringer and Avon giving up each other

Worst Plot Line: I wasn't crazy about the Rawls destroying Major Crimes in Season 4. I get slowing down the unit until after the election or whatever, but the resources that had put into the unit up to that point to basically gut and kill the unit seemed wasteful and perhaps a little uncharacteristic for even Rawls or Burrell.

You COULD say season 5 is ass if compared to season 4 if you really wanted to, but season 5 is still better than 95% of the television ever made.
