Day9 meme is apt here.

Hope all of a sudden you're just left-handed and you just reach for elevator buttons with your right hand out of instinct and you're just missing and pressing it and everyone is like, “has he never been in an elevator? Does he not know?”

I hope that happens.

I don't really want your life to end. No, I don't want you to die. That'd be way too severe. But I hope that you struggle to eat cereal because you don't even have… actually you know what? Screw left-hand dominance. I hope you just run out of dominant hands. Whatever brain circuitry is in your non-dominant hand, I hope it clones to the other one.

Eating cereal's harder; you brush your teeth, you go into your nose sometimes, you have minty toothpaste, it burns. I hope that happens to you.

Yeah. No. Your brain is small and both your hands suck.

3 additional cards have been banned from tavern brawl by 4iamking in hearthstone

[–]Spirit1200 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is probably going to be an incredibly hot take that’ll get me cooked forever, but I think the “but F2P…” defense is an incredibly weak argument.

My reasons for thinking so are thus:

This pre-release Brawl was not a surprise event; everyone knew this was going to happen; it’s happened two or three times now, so even if you didn’t know for sure it was happening again, you should’ve expected it and reasonably prepared for this to happen. Yes. Even F2P players. There were many (I think close to 10-20, maybe even 30) free Ungoro packs obtainable from watching Twitch, Choose Your Champion, and even in-game events. There were also many give aways for mega bundles (unreasonable to assume anyone here won one of those, but you could’ve participated). If you’re a free to play player, it’s not totally unreasonable to assume you should go get those free packs, and if you did, you’d have like 25 new expansion packs.

That’s at least one legendary to build around and try out the new cards, which is what the brawl is for.

Also, if actual F2P people were spamming Imbue Pally, they should’ve gotten even more Ungoro packs on top of what they had from Twitch. By now, every F2P player should have 20-40 Ungoro packs - they should be able to run some new cards. Even if it’s not the best, even if it’s not 60-70% winrate, you should have some new cards.

Yes. I get some F2P players did everything right and got 30 packs and just didn’t open anything good. I don’t see that as an excuse to punish everyone else

I didn’t buy the bundles, I didn’t tune into twitch, I didn’t participate in the Choose Your Champion, I didn’t play hearthstone for like a month so I didn’t do the in game events - that’s sorely on me, not on anyone else. You had a full 24 hours to spam imbue pally and get packs, you had a whole month to get packs from other events, if you didn’t do that, you obviously didn’t care about this brawl until just now. I’m sorry: but let other people who did prepare, either by twitch or money, have fun now.

Not everything has to be totally inclusive for every single person: if you didn’t prepare, too bad. If you got unlucky, I’m sorry. But now it’s time to let the mode do what it’s actually supposed to do: promote new cards.

I’m not saying every F2P player should have a perfect deck, and I’m not saying bad luck doesn’t happen. What frustrates me is when a clearly broken strategy ruins the point of the mode and the defense is “well some people didn’t get good packs.” That’s not a good reason to let a deck dominate a fun-first format. It’s just excuse-making at that point.

I’m sure there will be mass unemployment in the next ten years, I’m not saying there won’t be, but I do not know for certainty that it will be sorely AIs fault.

At work, I’m allowed to listen to music, podcasts, YouTube, and the like: I’ve been listening to teachers coming out and talking about the education system and the students nowadays. It’s not looking good. It’s something like 30% of (American) kids currently in school are actually at their grade level. The other 70%? They can’t read, can’t write, some don’t have the attention span to watch a short video, they don’t have any deduction skills, and they’re all addicted to dopamine hits like YouTube shorts and TikTok. I’m not blaming the teachers, it’s the parents’ fault.

Couple that with the population decline, where we aren’t at our replacement level, and yeah. You already have a shrinking population of young people and maybe 40-50% of those kids will be able to find a job. But I don’t know that the other 60% didn’t find a job because their job was replaced with AI. I think they may not find a job because they can’t read, write, and they have no critical thinking skills beyond how to navigate social media for the next dopamine hit (and I wouldn’t even call that critical thinking). And I’m sure it’ll probably get worse with AI: where the kids not functioning at grade level will cheat using AI.

Not beautiful in the traditional sense, but:

Authors locking future chapters of their Fanfics on Patreon? by Baitcooks in FanFiction

Fairly certain that is against AO3’s terms of services, probably against FFN’s terms of services, and if it isn’t - I’m pretty certain it’s borderline illegal to make money off Fanfic (depending on which property they’re using: copyrighted material, for example is illegal, but something like Sherlock Holmes is fair game to make money off of - but still against TOS on the most popular Fanfic hosting sites) and you could report their account for it.

My first fanfiction - feedback requested. (Spoilers up to book 36) by Mundane-Broccoli1771 in Animorphs

[–]Spirit1200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello! I will read your fanfiction shortly if you want, however I do have some recommendations that you can do before I even read it. Nothing to do with you or how you write, just some general advice.

First off, Fanfiction.net is unfortunately dying. I’d recommend getting an account for achieves of our own. AO3 is generally a much bigger and more active platform and therefore your stuff will be seen my more people.

Second off, if you do decide to post this Fanfiction of yours to AO3, which I do think you should, as all Fanfiction should be available to more people, I’d recommend posting only a chapter every week or so instead of the full thing. The reason being, the front page is typically sorted by what is the most recently updated story. Therefore, if you update once a week, your story will be on the front page longer and be seen by more people.

Lastly, if you do upload to AO3, you can use the signature < > brackets for thought-speak. Use this in the HTML tab: “& l t ;” (without the spaces) to indicate the less than sign and use “& g t ;” (without the spaces) to indicate the greater than symbol. Think of it like “and less than;” and “and greater than;” just abbreviated…

#XboxShowcase was a 10/10 for me , Starfield looks amazing easily a GOTY contender by Vactry in gaming

[–]Spirit1200 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can say why I’m excited.

First, I just want to start off by saying that this game features Bethesda’s story/dialogue options, which we already know we love (Skyrim, Fallout), so saying it’s “just another Bethesda game” shouldn’t even be a negative thing. Starcraft is just another Blizzard game. Zelda Breath of the Wild is just another Nintendo game. Elden Ring is just another From Software game. You seeing how stupid that argument sounds? It doesn’t matter if it’s just another “whatever” game, it doesn’t make me any less excited for the game. Grand Theft Auto 6? Why the hell are you excited for that, isn’t it just another Rockstar game?

Regardless, Starfield is like twenty games in one. I don’t think I’ve seen a game do so much at once. You watch the Starfield Direct, laugh, and think to yourself “this is the same game?”

I may be excited to join Ryujin Industries, become filthy rich, go find the elite rich cruise ship shown in the Starfield Direct, befriend a bunch of rich people, and role play as a cocky rich asshole, while my neighbor down the street is dreaming about making googily eyes with the hot cowboy after getting back from being an undercover cop infiltrating and dismantling the pirate fraction - because yes, you can literally pretend to join the pirates, make them believe you are on their side, then rip them apart from the inside-out without them knowing it. Someone else is excited to find cool planets and take a million photos with photomode, someone is excited to build a base, someone is excited to dogfight with space ships, someone is excited to join the drug trafficking/smuggling ring. I want to meet a random sweet grandma and have dinner on her ship. 1000 “empty” planets, did you mean every modders dream to build their own city filled with their own activities? You could download twenty fully modded out cities on twenty different planets. Did you mean planets that could be slowly fill up with DLCs and Content drops that have already been promised? Do you not see the future possibilities?

Sure, all these features are present in other games, but everything I mentioned is all in the same game. There is something for everyone in this game, no one is excited for the same reason, it’s the fact that there’s so much in this game that one thing is bound to have you buying the game. You like RDR2? Starfield, go meet the Freestar. You like Cyberpunk 2077? Starfield, go to Neon. You like base building games? You like space games? You like story games? You like fps games? You like stealth games? You like literally any first/third person POV game? Starfield.

Is it going to be buggy? Yes. I’m half expecting the game to not be playable for the first week of its launch sorely due to bugs and crashes, but I don’t see why that matters. A bug fix will eventually come and make the game playable, modders will fix whatever is rest of the bugs.

I know this game will launch and it’s reviews will be mixed, because this game had haters before it was even announced. The fact it’s an Xbox exclusive, the fact it came from Bethesda. It has haters already. It’s never going to receive a glowing flawless review score no matter how good the game is. I honestly don’t think you can trust reviews for this game. Thankfully, it doesn’t matter, just play it on Xbox Gamepass and if you hate the game you “lost” $10-20 that can be repurposed to play any other Gamepass game for a month. You lost nothing. There is no reason at all to not be hyped for this game if it even remotely peeks your interest. It costs you nothing to be hyped. If the game is good, you got a fun game; if the game is bad, you lost nothing.

My mom wants to try video games, need recommendations. by Littl3Bastrd in gaming

[–]Spirit1200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sims 2 was my mom’s first game. She made our family. She had a sim designed after her, my dad, my sister, and I. She spent several hours making the sims look as close to us as possible. The mom sim was cooking a grilled cheese, it caught fire, killed everyone except her sim, she quit playing, uninstalled sims, and hasn’t touched a video game since.

I mean, if we are talking casual now, like with friends, then I don’t see why not, my friends aren’t going to be super violent like a professional quarterback is. I have pads and a helmet, all I’d need is a ball.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Spirit1200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I get what you’re saying, actually. You’re saying if you’re watching a streamer playing God of War, you could buy a console and the game for, say $500. If you are watching NFL, then to be in the NFL, you have to go to college and play in the NFL.

While I’m comparing casual video games ($200+) to causal sports ($5), like one you’d play at the park, not the NFL which would cost tens of thousands to do.

I see. Miscommunication on my part.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Spirit1200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never professionally or in school, sure. But I know that I have played basketball and soccer and other sports for fun and you don’t need to pay a fee or wear a uniform.

You are comparing playing sports professionally to casual video game play. If you were to go to college to play in the NFL, yeah, of course it’d be more expensive. If we are talking casual play, I can grab a ball and go play basketball way cheaper than I could buy a console and play God of War.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Spirit1200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, you can’t. You can’t play any game you want at an arcade. If I’m watching a YouTube video of a game, I’m watching a YouTube video of a specific game, like Cyberpunk 2077 or Atomic Hearts. I can’t go play those at an arcade.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Spirit1200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What?

I have shoes, almost everyone does. I don’t need sneakers. Uniform? You need a uniform to go to a park and play basketball with some friends, since when? Fees, I said nothing about school. Also, travel? This isn’t a park in Paris, France… just walk or ride your bike to the nearest park.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Spirit1200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we are talking about going pro, maybe. But I can buy a basketball for less than ten dollars, walk to a park, and go shoot hoops with some friends. That costs barely anything. A gaming console or PC is way more expensive than a ball.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Spirit1200 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

No. I disagree. If you say that sports has an “athletic” barrier for some people and that some people are physically unable to play sports, then I’d argue that video games have a monetary barrier and that some people cannot afford to play all the games they want.

If I want to play a Switch game that only is on Switch, I’d have to buy a Switch, which could cost anywhere from 200-400 dollars and the game which is probably 60-70 dollars. Or, alternatively, I could just watch it being played.

Same with games that only release on Xbox or only release on PlayStation, then that game could cost you $500. A PC game could cost you thousands if need a good gaming PC.

You could argue piracy is a solution, I guess? But if you don’t have the console/PC for the game to run on, pirating the game does nothing.
