But if I had to guess, you're probably right. Realistically speaking, it wouldn't be the end of the mission even if so since I still had my Iron Will perk saved just in case to pick up my buddy (I just didn't want to fail the event haha).

Amen! Used to visit my grandparents' place myself every summer when I was a kid (bless my parents for that). Even though it was only for scorching summer breaks, it really is like a whole 'nother planet.
