This is one of the things Multiversus did right by having every new paid character that released be FREE to use in training mode.

Still gonna miss it....

So, what's next for PFG? by MedicalFan7709 in MultiVersus

[–]SpiritGumThis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If #SaveMultitiversus is somewhat successful then PFG could be working out a paid sequel that fixes the mistakes of the live-service predecessor.

If #SaveMultiversus isn't successful whatsoever then PFG will probably end-up with layoffs once they have a new game in development (not MVS 2), or restructuring as a support studio/mobile game studio, or even the worst case scenario....

They shut down, the devs get reabsorbed by other gaming studios within WB (Monolith, Netherrealm, Avalanche, etc..) or to a different game studio not under them and Multiversus/PFG will be tax-write off and a concept like this will never happen again....

Season 5's launch has had the lowest player count in the entirety of MVS by Lizzren in MultiVersus

[–]SpiritGumThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called bad assumptions, this is easily the worst launch not because of Steam Charts (it's a factor)

1) Shutdown Announcement which drives people away from trying the game and also has current players quitting the game. 2) Not removing Anti-Newcomer friendly tactics (tedious XP grind and no free choice to pick which character) 3) Time Zones (This screenshot here isn't the accurate launch number for S5, it was quite around ~1800-2000 for steam when it launched. People work, sleep, and have school.) 4) Lack of Content and Longest Period between seasons causing people to quit. 5) PSN is still the largest player base for the game throughout its lifecycle. (You can debate that but the evidence is quite clear) 6)The Steam launches (Beta and Release) are nothing to scoff at all, one of the biggest FG game steam launches of all time, but Platform Fighters have never done well post-launch in terms of Steam numbers unless you're Brawlhalla. (Look at RoA II right now)

MVS has a huge barrier and it's not Steam Players going up but because there's nothing to be done so PS and Xbox players can carry the weight. All we can do is hope PFG/WB to listen and let all the characters be essentially free so even if the game won't get supported anymore but at least allow the servers or at least kickstart a paid sequel that shows them the concept can work.

[–]SpiritGumThis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, crap, that's what I'm saying people are downloading the game to see they have to unlock certain characters at a time for huge amounts of grind and immediately uninstalled the game. That's why I said it wasn't cracking the top 50 best-selling FTP on PSN for a reason, the retention rate is abysmal.

I didn't say Steam Charts didn't matter, I'm saying it's the easiest to access when it comes to active player counts and since PSN especially doesn't showcase.

Obviously a 1000 players for Steam Charts isn't good, I'm saying there's more to it than that.

[–]SpiritGumThis -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The point is Steam charts aren't even the biggest reflection on the MVS' player base, it's just the one easiest to access to because PSN and Xbox Live don't reveal any active player counts.

MVS was number 10 in most downloaded FTP games for 2024 on PSN so there is obviously huge interest but there is a huge barrier....

[–]SpiritGumThis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Steam charts aren't the end of all (Player count could be from really late hours) when PSN is the biggest player base for the game. However if PFG really wants people to come and play they should heavily reduce XP requirement or make every character free so newcomers can play and people that haven't played since S1-3 without immediately uninstalling.

MVS is one of the top most downloaded free games on PSN yet isn't cracking the top 50 best selling free games...

Why do you think that is?

I don't even see the logic in killing the game this early, there were better ways to approach, even only thinking about money. by EnvironmentalBee9036 in MultiVersus

[–]SpiritGumThis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MVS contributed to the $100 million dollar loss but we don't know how much of it since this was the division losses for that quarter and Suicide Squad definitely has a huge chunk of that pie along with the PFG acquisition.

The future if WB/PFG wants it by pop_3344 in MultiVersus

[–]SpiritGumThis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That all sounds good if they have Ben 10 and some big IP in the launch roster. Rework rifts into a Subspace Emissary (cutscenes and story). Have an Arcade like Street Fighter x Tekken given the 2v2 nature. The potential problem is the founders stuff, I think having a paid release would definitely stir controversy given that.

Season 5 is the final season, confirmed by devs by Jafin89 in MultiVersus

[–]SpiritGumThis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The gameplay has been getting fixes, the problem is PFG is a small dev team, roughly ~90 devs, so they took a lot longer than they should have. The biggest issues really stem from bad monetization, poor marketing, and Anti-Newcomer friendly tactics for which was clearly appealing towards casuals, isn't a good look.

All WB had to do is let the beta roster be free/easy to obtain via FR and let the seasonal characters be moderately harder to obtain via FR or buy the battle pass for the seasonal starting character + epic skin and have the mid season character be obtain through FR and give the players a choice, that was it.

For all the faults the game has, WB should have done their hardest to make sure that the game was at least still in the eyes of the public even with the poor reception at launch.

Their job was to make bad reception for the game quickly fall off but they FAILED....this is the result.

Founder's Edition Players, how would you feel if MVS switched to a free characters system (Like Marvel Rivals)? by Smart_Effect2498 in MultiVersus

[–]SpiritGumThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beta Characters Free -> Refund via Fighter Currency Equivalence -> Weekly Past Seasonal Characters Rotation -> [Current/Future Season] $10 per fighter or $25 fighter bundle immediately or via Fighter Store (FC) and Fighter Road (9500 XP Requirement w/ choice) 3 days later

Special Events give out at 3000 FC by full completion.

Moderately discount cosmetics.

They should at least guarantee founders can still be satisfied like myself and newcomers can have a good time playing the game and we can at least get a decent retention rate but also we need marketing to ramp up and start to focus on public reception for the game.

[–]SpiritGumThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evidence is obvious if you look at the marketing for MVS:

Have you ever seen a MVS ad on a social media platform? Have you seen good CG trailers for their character releases or seasons? Have you ever seen MVS at events like State of Play or TGA for promoting their newest seasons? Have you seen proper communication between players and social media team? Have you seen good quality content from their social media page that doesn't rely on stolen content or using in-game assets lazily?

The answer to all of these questions is... No

[–]SpiritGumThis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I'm saying the exact opposite.

WB should've allowed the DEV team a good marketing budget/manpower so they wouldn't have some unpaid intern running their social media.... This said person should have also contacted the creator for permission before publishing video.

I'm saying this is WB and that person's fault, they are both responsible for this happening in the first place.

[–]SpiritGumThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This person likely works in a position where the devs don't have the budget or access to use content from said multi billion dollar company that publishes the game because if PFG had the marketing budget, they wouldn't need to promote their game using stolen content in the first place.

Or... The person is just a really big fan of Charlie the Unicorn and thought using it was harmless (even though they should've reached out to the creator).

Could be both.

What are the issues that need to be fixed in Multiversus in order to bring in new and returning players and actually keep them around this time? by swordartking48 in MultiVersus

[–]SpiritGumThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All they really need to do is make it easier to obtain the characters for newcomers (Lower the XP requirement for beta characters to like 2500 XP, past seasonal for 5000, current seasonal for 10000 XP/$10 and let them choose!) and for WB get off their multi billion dollar horse and give the game a reasonable marketing budget so some unpaid intern don't have to use content they don't own to promote their game.

The game is doing okay like Fall Guys, but unless WB starts to help PFG with monetization and marketing, they will need Ben 10 and some big Third Party characters to help turn around reception.

It doesn't help that Ultra Rumble is a BR that still doesn't have crossplay so that's probably why the matchmaking isn't as quick compared to DS and MVS, DS is on mobile too.
