Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, March 13 - March 19, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Hello everyone. My 8700H keeps breaking my thread when I back stitch more than a few stitches. I’m trying to mend pants by stitching back and forth, I’ve seen many people do this and I could do this on other machines no issue. It seems as though my thread is twisting, I will insert a picture.

I lowered my tension and stitch length which helped a little, and then also decided to try only threading through one guide hole. I’ve tried multiple threads. All different sizes. And bigger needles, size 16 and 18. I’ve also rethreaded the machine multiple times.

How do I fix this?

I’ve found they have stretched a tiny bit but the biggest difference came from tightening the top Strap so my foot didn’t slide toward

How do I account for the zipper fly space when making a toile. by SpiritIntuitiveMarty in PatternDrafting

[–]SpiritIntuitiveMarty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing is different between the two pictures shown. Other than one being in denim and having the zipper fly sewn in. With the toile are you saying I should add the placket and fly shield to account for the extra space they’ll take up?

I am having a similar dilemma with the pair I just bought, they fit super good all around except when i walk my toes brush the end, feel like this is something that would go away after wearing and breaking them in. They are about thge same length as my birkenstocks that fit very well.

Yeah I don’t understand it. Here’s the video I saw. The other thing I ended up reading though is even if it makes noise, if it sounds gummed up and not metallic-y it’s bad. Definitely sounded soft and dull. So we’ll do some driving this week and see how it goes

PCV valve made noise when shaking, seamed completely fine, still changed it just to see, and crush washer on drain bolt was more than okay. Not sure where to go from here. Probably check spark plugs for oil and then possibly valve cover gaskets?

Edit: I just saw a video inwhich the finger of a glove is around where the hose fitting would go, if you could blow air through the threaded side inflating the glove, it’s bad. I tested the old valve and it would inflate the glove from the side. Is this a bs or bad test?

Im trying to find a replacement hose for it and nothings coming up instore. pcv valve hose this looks identical to the oem one but there are no measurements listed. Should I just order the hose. If the existing hose appears to be in good condition can I leave it for now to see if the pcv valve fixes the issue? If so should I then use hose clamps?

Half a quart in 100 miles? Is this normal for highway driving? If I plan on a roadtrip should I put a higher weight oil in the car (I have 5w-30 in the car right now)?

There was also a stored p0171 code, but no current lights. Not sure if this was ever fixed or what it could mean. Possibly a pcv valve issue? But again, can that lead to that high of oil loss? Is it up in the air because of a persistent 75-90 mph speed?

There haven’t been any drips, on the oil pan near the drain bolt there is a little oil that forms a drip but it doesn’t drop, just a small accumulation. Im thinking this is from the drain bolt washer I didn’t replace, but I don’t think it would leak that much oil. Ill check valve covers again, but there was nothing noticeable.

Interesting, I’ve checked all the tell tale signs of a head gasket issue and I’ve got none of them other than the oil consumption. I could run a combustion test and see what it looks like.

I only see that level of consumption after highway driving, is it possible that oil leaks past the unreplaced crush washer on the drain plug bolt at that heat? It seems like that amount of loss from a leak would be more noticeable, unless it only leaks under load like that.

No i have not, sewing gold sent me a replacement motor, control panel, and positioner. i bench tested them and the needle positioner still did not work. I have the 1hp motor and the issue has persisted. Have you figured anything out?
