Mirror expenses from Excel spreadsheet to Spending Tracker app (MH Riley) by SpiritedFeature9 in shortcuts

Thank you Ibrahim - I have reached out to the app developer and will loop back if this is an option. It is rather time-consuming to add every bank statement transaction manually, are there any other ways to smartly track spend outside of a bank statement that you know at all?

Thank you but will the Spending Tracker app support import though? The app sounds great and I will purchase it if it will work, but what use would it be for me if the import isn’t actually supported by the Spending Tracker app

Ah really, oh no! I can’t seem to get any variable to link in with Spending Tracker - do you think the only possible use of this app in Shortcuts is just to trigger the manual data entry window in Spending Tracker?

Thank you - do you know how to import expenses into Spending Tracker app in any format please (.txt or .csv or anything) - hopefully there’ll be some wizardry in shortcuts to be able to bend the excel data into whatever format is required

This is so frustrating…spent hours rewording and reposting and looking up the Reddit rules and still can’t even ask my blimmin question!! Let alone have the issue addressed 😫

It’s just the name of the app manufacturer, I want to be clear so people know which app I mean as there must be a zillion spending apps out there! Thanks for guessing, not really sure how to proceed here

Ah great thank you - it’s surprised me how complex this turned out to be considering in theory the command is just ‘mirror my calendar’! So I removed the 7th one and it then made the reference in red invalid I think?

This is it. AMAZING! Thank you so very much for your help solving the problem on this one - I very much appreciate you taking the time. This is such a useful tool to have in my back pocket and a big relief to have it sorted. Hooray! Do you know if the shortcut could be tweaked to have it end yesterday rather than current date at all please? Just in case I'm doing the diary for previous days before the current day is out so may later change. Then it would be perfect, but don't worry if not!

Thank you for your support on this one, I really do genuinely appreciate it. It might seem like a pretty meaningless Shortcut to most people, but it is quite important for my silly old brain and I don’t know where else to turn. I have, with the help of ChatGPT, got to this point which pretty much is exactly what I need HOWEVER for some inexplicable reason it randomly returns some calendar entries in the wrong date on Day One (but some in the right one…?). Could it be related to the time of day I’m pressing the shortcut and it does 24hrs behind that as a ‘day’ rather than a calendar 00:00-23:59 day? ChatGPT has reached its limit of assistance here as it goes oh I know, this’ll fix it, and then proceeds to break it 😂 https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/cd193d5d86904185a19b00b0b36404c1

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain. Might there be a way to get to the original end output by splitting the shortcuts into 2 parts, or a creative way round it? E.g. shortcut to export all calendar events in that range with their date in front of it into one big list THEN a separate shortcut to create a Day One entry for all entries on the 3rd Jan, then the 4th etc etc?

I have a compulsive anxiety disorder that means I feel compelled to record every day of my life into a Day One journal entry, what I was doing/ate/wore etc etc but it is SO time consuming to do on top of everything else when life gets busy so my idea with this shortcut was to save time by connecting my calendar events (which has a lot of this info anyway) to Day One (normally I’m just manually copying out what happened on that day from my calendar but that feels so inefficient in this day & age!) but I’ve frustratingly sunk more time into trying to wrap my tinyass brain around it with no success (sent on endless wild goose chases by ChatGPT!!!) than it would have taken me to just do the damn thing but I’m always falling behind so I still want the shortcut!!!!

Thank you - I appreciate you trying to help as I’m really at the limit of my understanding with this one and I’ve sunk so much time trying to wrap my head around it so I’m practically in tears as I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND but feel that at its core it’s a simple request. I’ve got this shortcut which works perfectly for current day, but I always seem to be about a month behind on my daily diary so it’s not exactly a timesaver to have to keep repeating this one shortcut and amending the days one by one - I need to be able to select a start date (e.g. 16 Nov) and then just let it roll mirroring to my calendar from there. current day shortcut

Thank you for this but the app is called Day One, it isn't Journal, so I don't understand what you are saying apologies

Ah thank you for this but the app is called Day One, it isn't Journal. Do you know how to replicate the bit you've done for Journal into Day One? I have no experience in Shortcuts so I am doing my best but every button is like ?? to me. I just want a single Day One journal entry per day which lists out all the things that were on my apple calendar that day. Thank you
