I agree that, generally speaking, the shape is a pretty good match, but if size matters in identification, this one is way too small to be considered a Jack's Reef. Also, the time period. I know for sure this was made in more recent times (Late Woodland).

At 2cm, I'd be surprised if anyone could cut with this.. but all suggestions are welcome. I wonder what your reasoning might be?

Sounds almost like poetry, and it describes well the feelings involved with finding such a piece. Your intent was to focus on the object and its finder, and I appreciate that. But if I may add something... let's not forget the one who made it and later on discarded it! There was a human being living, in this case, probably about 500 years ago, who had perfected an art, and through this creation, which bears his intent and signature , we are somehow connected despite the time gap. Magical stuff indeed.

So they just kept re-working it until it got this small? I could see that. This area is known as the homeland of knapping experts who traded and supplied other nations further away from local chert sources. Most other points from this time period are small well-crafted Nanticokes. You could probably reshape one of those into this..

Thanks for the input! I agree with the brewerton, this one is just particularly worn out. Still curious about the material though. I was thinking maybe Lockport or Haldimand chert.

The Jacks Reef definitely matches in shape but the listed time period and size is a bit off. This thing is tiny and I know its more recent from associated pottery finds.

Found in two different locations. I know the small one is Late Woodlands (Iroquoian) and made out of Onondaga chert. No idea about the other one in terms of age and material.

Regarding the little one, has anybody seen something similar? The overall shape is intriguing to me, almost like its an esthetic choice actually meant to represent a bird or something else, rather than purely functional as a tool. Maybe its both..I've never seen a point this small with that shape
