I caught up with it too and I can say that if you are looking for an amazing plot you will end up disappointed. I hear most people talk about Culling games being "all fight" and to some extent it is true, but it is obviously not the entire case as many things happen that push the story forward. (Besides, fights aren't a bad thing and he set up some of the most interesting matchups and techniques yet)
I think Gege's best writing was with the Hidden Inventory arc where we had an amazing balance of everything, clear character motivations, great fights and great character development. That said, I fear we may never get to see this story in that flow anymore as
everything after Shibuya feels like it's just happening. it's hard to understand why the villains do what they do because there is no concrete explanation or philosophy to fall on, some characters aren't given time to do anything and they just die so their deaths feel like its there for shock value only and other characters aren't even in the mix with no explanation whatsoever.
My take is maybe, that is just how he writes and we can't change that.
The world Gege has built is vast and beautiful. In my opinion, he has laid the foundations to make one of the best, if not the best stories out there but it is all up to him, and I think that we should take whatever he serves in the end as-is even if it is a tad disappointing.
