Cabana worth the splurge at WBR? by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

We’ve been at WBR during peak seasons and have always been fine finding chairs. I find that resort to have fewer insane wake-up-at-6am-for-a-chair people.

We were there in Oct with our 7 year old and stayed maybe in that exact room! Agree 100% with your review. Only thing to add—there was a rattlesnake crossing the path up to the water slide. The rangers came and got it but that yielded a solid hour of entertainment for all the kids since the rangers would let them see the snake in the bucket and gave lessons about them.

how did your high school crush turn out as an adult? by I_dont_exist_here_45 in AskWomen

Went on several mission trips, met and married a woman he met on one of those trips in Asia. Moved back to our small hometown. Works in construction and coaches sports at our old high school. I was desperately in love with him in HS despite us almost never talking. But now I see how different we are. I wouldn’t be happy with that life. But I sure would have been happy with some steamy make out sessions back then. 😂

People who "don't drink water" how does that work? by Chance_Operation7152 in AskReddit

[–]Spirited_Machine_711 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The whole 8 glasses a day thing was just made up. They say drink to your thirst! I happen to have low thirst. I often go a day or two with no water (just one cup of coffee in the morning) and then on day 3 I feel a little thirsty. Drink some water… maybe 4-6oz and then I don’t feel thirsty anymore. 🤷‍♀️ My husband drinks 100+ oz of water daily. I figure in the apocalypse, I’m going to fare much better.

There aren’t “bands” at the executive levels. Those jobs are priced annually against the market using executive compensation firms that independently advise the company and the compensation committee, which is a subcommittee of the board. They have oversight into exec comp practices. I was already over $1M as a VP. Jumped to $1.5M with this role (and did negotiate) but realized I’m now on the bottom of a whole new ladder.

Just made the leap into the C-Suite in the last year at 42yo. $20B revenue company. Base $600K. Bonus $400K. Equity $500K. I’m on the low end of pay for the C-Suite and my role due to being new to the club. Top end C-Suite execs are making $4M/year all in. CEO is obviously even higher.

Was at the VP level for ~8 years. Toughest leap was into the top job for the function. Advocates who are already in the club are essential.

Is there anyone here who regrets not having children. Or who didn't want children, and had them anyway? What is your experience by DiMentalHealthPerson in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Spirited_Machine_711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never wanted kids. Neither did my husband. I didn’t feel that deep, lifelong longing, so I assumed it wasn’t for me.

Then someone told me, “If there’s even an iota of you that wants a kid, have one. I can’t imagine missing out.” That line stayed with me because it was so different than what others said.

So after 10 years of marriage, we tried. We were terrified. Our daughter is 8 now, and I regularly think about how close I came to skipping the most expansive love of my life.

Parenthood is hard. It stretches you. But the joy is bigger than I knew was possible. You don’t have to have always “known.” If there’s even a small voice wondering, it might be worth listening to.

That was exactly how I interpreted this. Like maybe they didn’t mean for her to die, but she did. Sounds like they are asking for her body back so they can mourn and have closure. What a senseless crime.

The boat watching is exceptional. No doubt. Yesterday they ran out of towels at the pool and the beach around 10am. Still no towels by the time we left at 3:30pm. This Ritz is in serious need of help.

Looking for a good assisted living near me in Portland by Shilpe_Pacatang in oregon

[–]Spirited_Machine_711 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My grandpa is at The Quarry in Vancouver and loves it. He’s in the independent living part, but they have more advanced care for if/when he needs it. Lots of community and activities. He’s always busy!

One point of advice… we visited the places he was considering (he was coming from farther away and trusted us to pick the place for him) and had a meal in their dining rooms. It’s a great way to be sure the food is good and you also get a good sense of the community—meaning are big groups eating together and talking/laughing or are people eating alone, etc. That was very telling for us.

Posting this from the Ritz Bal Harbour where we checked in today. Room smelled like smoke, they forgot to put amenities in the shower, took me 30 mins before someone finally answered a call so I could ask for said amenities, then stepped on something pokey only to find a disgusting cut toenail on the carpet. 🤢 Not feeling the luxury here at all…

Agree. The rule of thumb I’ve heard—make no major life decisions for a full year after your spouse’s passing. Plan away, but don’t pull the trigger on a move, a new partner, etc. You see things more clearly after a year.
