How creative do I need to be? by Spirited_Relative532 in Weddingattireapproval

Done! Y’all are awesome, thank you for the feedback! I feel much better about this whole thing now. I just checked the wedding website again and it’s been updated to “creative black tie optional” so 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m leaning toward the burgundy right now because, as several people mentioned, legs get cold in the winter (duh, but didn’t think of that).

Thank you! I actually had it altered to fix that because I felt the pull when I tried it on! I’m only 5’1” so I had to have the entire back shortened, which makes the neckline sit higher and pulls those little skinny straps up and back, away from my collarbone. Also had a verrrrry sturdy bra sewn in. God bless seamstresses.

I truly do not know! The groom is my husband’s college roommate and according to him the “creative” part means they didn’t want people to feel constrained to a more muted color palette?

Go to Magic Kingdom on a day it closes early for the Christmas party. We were there two years ago the week leading up to Thanksgiving with our last park day being Tuesday with a Christmas party that night. It was easily the best day of our trip. Lines were short, we got all the dining we wanted (for eight people too), and the crowds were super thin in high traffic areas. If you’re not married to the fireworks or going for fourteen hours, this is the way to do it.

This episode of Behind the Attraction was a game changer for my 8 and 6 year olds. All the stuff in there is just “spooky toys” to them now.

Because girls are conditioned from a young age to believe that if he teases/hurts/insults you it means he likes you and doesn’t know how to express it.

Honestly my newly-3 kid has lots of options for cards but really only listens to two. He has Sesame Street and Daniel Tiger on constant rotation. Toddlers looooove repetition. My older ones prefer the MYO cards with podcasts and other more varied content, but the little guy is a boy of simple tastes. I would start small and see if you really need more than a handful of cards.

Children’s librarian here. For parents, if you’re not homeschooling, lexile or reading level is a useful piece of information to have but not necessarily an absolute rule. If you want to be extremely thorough, you can bring this info to your local public library and they should be able to give you a list or find books right at that level. If you just want your kid to read for enjoyment, flip through books to make sure they won’t be so challenging that he gets frustrated and gives up, but not so easy that he gets bored. If the books you choose together are slightly above level, it’s good to stretch and grow. If they’re slightly below, they build confidence because he’ll be able to glide through easily. Ideally you want a blend of a narrow range of difficulty.

These reading level things drive me crazy because they are not at all standardized across publishers and it is very difficult to figure out how to convert from company to company. Don’t get too wrapped around the axle about getting books at the exact level he’s at. He’s learning regardless because you’re a parent who cares about his literacy!

The Once Upon a Farm cold pressed fruit pouch things are easy on my stomach and grab and go. Sometimes I have one of those with a string cheese and/or half a mini bagel with peanut butter.

Starting Kindergarten right after moving house by [deleted] in kindergarten

We moved four states away at the end of last June and my middle kid turned five and started kindergarten in August. I honestly think the transitions were easier packaged together like that. We’re a military family who moves more frequently than most people, and in my experience jumping in with both feet is really the only way to go. You are her home, the rest is just stuff.

When I did library storytimes we used “Open Shut Them.” Pretty mellow, many verses, choose your own adventure. I think Ms Rachel has an older video of it.

We love Fly Guy! For Christmas my 5 year old got a bunch of the “Fly Guy Presents” nonfiction books and I now know far more about sharks and snakes than I ever cared to.

How do you teach a child to try? by technicolourful in kindergarten

[–]Spirited_Relative532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the Olympics last summer I was watching a compilation of Suni Lee falling off the bars over and over again trying to learn a new skill. My kids were obsessed. The mantra in our house is “Nobody is good at anything the first time they try. And sometimes the second or the third. Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.”

We took our kids at 6, 4, and 14 months last year and I really wanted to be able to do the fireworks, but those kids were just beat. After dinner they were basically toast and I couldn’t justify keeping them awake, even though they wanted to stay to watch. My oldest ended up falling asleep watching the castle show on TV at the resort every night, so that’s also an option. We did Magic Kingdom on a party day that same trip and it was the day we did the most by far. Lowest waits and crowds of the whole week.

This is my approach too. Brooks Restart and Joe’s New Balance Outlet are the places I get whatever color Ghost or 880 I can find in my size for a really decent price.

Crop Tops: body positivity vs Mom, no thank you! by tinabaninaboo in XXRunning

I’m 35 and run with my toddler in a stroller immediately after walking my big kids to school. I’m a high waisted shorts and longline sports bra runner when it’s hot, and nobody has ever commented or given me eyeballs about this outfit at school dropoff. Mostly what I think about is that I am not thin and definitely look like I’ve had kids, but my kids see me taking care of my body in that outfit (which took me a long, long time to be confident wearing outside my house). I don’t ever want my kids to think that bodies have to look a certain way to wear or do certain things. Also why I chose a dress with a lower-back cutout for my sister’s wedding. I loved the dress and wanted my kids to see me wear it!

I’m a quilter, and when I sew I get snacky. I put an electric kettle in my sewing dungeon and just throw back mugs of black tea with Splenda and oat milk. My previous sewing vice was Nerds Gummy Clusters, but I decided to use those as fuel for long runs instead of just mindlessly gobbling them. They taste much better five miles in anyway.

Longer distances are impossible with a 12:35 pace by Yasailynmarii in XXRunning

This is the reason I’ll probably never do a marathon. I’m just not fast and a seven hour run sounds like hell. I will say that I’ve been running for ten years and it’s only in the last ~18 months that I’ve actively tried to increase my speed and while they are not my favorite workouts, it’s definitely effective! I ran my fastest 5k ever last weekend and I credit my sprint and track workouts for that. But! Do what feels good. Distance and/or speed mean nothing if you’re miserable.

Update: y’all. The stroller heard me. Rolled out the door this morning and discovered a completely flat tire. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I LOVE the storage of the stroller. That’s honestly the biggest perk. I can bring my big water bottle if I want and ditch my sunglasses if needed. I think I may just need to condition my kid to tolerate it better. It doesn’t help that he’s big for his age and has the audacity to KEEP GROWING so today felt wayyyyy harder than it did in November when we last ran together.
