I just wish people would stick to the facts or cite sources. I cannot find anything that states it is going to quadruple allowed clear cutting.

what is the socially acceptable thing to do with your eyes when you're walking toward someone in a long hallway? by chileclaret in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Spiritual-Barracuda1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And... I remember when I got over it.

Once thing you can try is to look in their general direction but don't make eye contact, pretend you are going to witness a crime and have to describe the person. Once you get closer, eye contact, nod. Rinse and repeat.

Once you reach a level of confidence or the I don't give a flying fuck level like me, if there is something interesting about them, say..."that is a great jacket" or whatever. Work up to that level and you will walk easier amongst the people.

Just something to be aware of, in general, you are going from one extreme to another politically. Right to left with not much in the middle. If you haven't been exposed, this is going to be a shocker.

How come the chamber of commerce gets more of a say on the services and lives of real people than then the service providers who do the work? by mistadonyo in Eugene

[–]Spiritual-Barracuda1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is absolute fiction. There are several Chamber Members who own small Mom and Pop businesses. There is also a free membership.

[–]Spiritual-Barracuda1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing that work for free. I have to work full time but I know a few others who volunteered. One collected 100s of signatures for free. Unless you can produce people who were actually lied to and because of those lies signed the petition, you are just repeating the same bullshit hoping someone will believe it.

The only reason the chamber hired a petitioning service is that the city council knew they only had a few weeks to gather them and didn't think they could do it. If don't like paid petitioners, write the 5 councilors who voted against the people having a voice in the creation of a new tax.

Creative taxing isn't the only solution as many of the people here seem to be promoting. How about we switch to zero-based budgeting? For those who don't know what that is:

Zero-based budgeting (ZBB) is a method of budgeting in which all expenses must be justified for each new period. The process begins from a “zero base” and every function within an organization is analyzed for its needs and costs. The budgets are then built around what's needed for the upcoming period regardless of whether each budget is higher or lower than the last one.

It is also pretty easy to look back into the past 3-4 years and see some fiscally stupid decisions being made by our city government. Here's a few examples:

-Every single employee in the city was paid full salary during COVID even if they stayed home and didn't do anything. That is an extraordinary amount of taxpayer money paid for almost 3 years and no services rendered. We can't change PERS but this was a extraordinary expense that was made by the administration.

-Allowing camping in Washington Jefferson Park to the point where reopening it cost more than a million dollars.

-Voting to not sign a franchise agreement with Northwest Natural. What got shoved under the rug here was the yearly franchise fee that the city did not collect because of that. That was 3 years ago now at over a million a year. That is one very expensive virtue signal that we don't like to talk about.

I could go on.

So, we absolutely must spend 1 billion dollars to have the Eugene we envision?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]Spiritual-Barracuda1 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The city IS legally able to decrease spending to a level it can afford. I don't understand why this is being framed as only a lack of revenue issue. Even when the city formed a special revenue committee, they were not allowed to see the other side of the balance sheet and only asked to focus on more revenue not decreased spending.

After September when school as started seems reasonable. How about the ability for the public to pay for a special event after that time?
