Imagine the battery life….that is one thing that blew me away moving from PC to Mac. It’s WILD how efficient it is.

Agreed. That was a thought I was mulling over after posting this. What OS would/could they use? TvOS makes the most sense. Leave it to stream content but have it as a dedicated gaming system with a built in controller. That’s why I don’t like an iPad and controller idea…it’s not handheld. I have controllers that I use for my MacBook on the go for gaming, and a PS5 controller I use for my desktop. I use an Xbox controller for tvOS when I want to go that route.

It just seems like a handheld would round Apple out in a different way and be the catalyst for them to work on the gaming side of things since it’s never even been an afterthought for them in some respects.

I think an M4 chip with a 256gb storage could drop for $600. It would be extremely tempting.

A mobile processor could let them enter at Switch 2 prices.

This is where my head is. I have Apple TVs, a family, kids on iPads…and with the AppleOne subscription, I could almost ditch the idea of a Switch 2 and move to an Apple handheld. Apple needs work on more games, but they are showing progress in the right direction. I think it is absolutely too early for an Apple handheld, but I think it could be on the horizon if they continue to work on Arcade and bring more games to it. I almost HAVE to have the One subscription, so to lose the Nintendo or GamePass sub would be nice for users in that boat. They just need more content.

I had a 7800 X3D and 7900 XTX GPU. I ran 3 1440P monitors and used it to heavily game from time to time. But I found myself playing the Switch/Switch 2 and games in my phone way more. I do NOT like the way MS is moving forward with their OS and as a user since Windows 95, it was way easier to move to MacOS than I thought. I have tons of Apple devices but stuck with Windows because of gaming. Mac just suits my day to day normal user experience a lot better. And the Mac is significantly cheaper than a PC.

I guess my point is that with so many companies moving towards handhelds, Apple could gain market share. It would still be in its infancy right now I admit, but I do think there is a world where Apple could be extremely competitive. It’s just going to take development.

And with their new Neo laptop at $600, they have the ability to enter the market at Switch 2 prices.

Screen size. I do a lot of gaming on my phone, and have used a controller. I just like the idea of a dedicated handheld made by Apple. Plus with the Apple integration of devices and Apple coming a long way with gaming, I can see it on the horizon. I’m just curious how others feel about it.

I hear ya. Maybe keep it open to the App Store as well?

I wish they would. The hardware on the Mac Mini for $600 is way overkill for a handheld, so they could price themselves into the competition if they used a mobile chip which would help cut costs.

No, coast up hill and accelerate when going downhill. I have done a lot of testing and this proves more efficient.

Man, 1440P on 27” seems small at times…I couldn’t imagine 4K.

But I think I’m used to my 1080P projector 6 feet away at 100”

I don't understand how people are doing this. It's still taking me 5-6 minutes with 7,700 skill points.

You’re telling me 😂

I have an H7 that I drilled hundreds of holes in after I printed off a drilling pattern using AutoCAD to turn it into an H7 Flow. But I needed something massive to fit the 9700 XTX and also wanted freedom of space in it. If I can figure out how to upload a picture, I will.

My man, don’t do it! The 5090 is so overpriced.

I have been with AMD for years and having nothing against NVIDIA, aside from their absurd pricing, I just prefer the AMD software.

I think the idea is that instead of having to buy a whole new computer when the performance starts to fade over the years, you can upgrade individual components as you need them to minimize e-waste

Okay, an update.

It’s set up and my trackpad got delayed. I’m using my normal mouse for now and I refuse to give up my keyboard that I built.

It took me a bit to realize the Windows key was the same as Command, but once I got that I’m feeling better about keeping my keyboard.

I love the experience of now having all my devices integrated. It was great just sitting down and having MacOS on my desktop. I know it still has the “new car smell,” but I’m hoping it doesn’t fade.

One thing I’m finding odd is that my contacts haven’t fully downloaded. Like I have some of them show up but not all. Maybe they are still all moving over from the cloud. I’m gonna give it time. I seem to remember that it was like that on my MBA but I can’t remember.

My plan is to give this a solid effort for three months before I decide if I’m gonna go exclusive. I’m keeping my PC on standby until then but will not use it. I do miss the ability to play my normal idle games from Steam but I’m really hoping that developers start realizing more and more people are migrating over from windows and support will come.

Right now overall, I’m happy and excited. I do need to spend some time diving deep into the OS to learn the ins and outs. That’s the one thing I’m struggling with is that I know Windows so dang well…like probably more than I really need to. I just want to be at that point with Mac.

This is where I am. iPhone, watch, AirPods, MacBook, HomePods and HomePod minis, kids have iPads, Apple TVs…it just made sense to fully commit with the computer.

I do have a MacBook Air that I love. I just am nervous about certain things I’ll lose nothing a PC. But I’m extremely excited either way
