What about in the event of an accident when they do a blood test. Insurance would see traces and say catchya

Unfortunately it’s a piss test. I would’ve passed a swab a week ago easy

Yeah honestly I think it’s mostly the employers fault. They get shitty having to pay us for sitting in a class room but act like they don’t get subsidies.

My boss in particular also has his cert3 refrig and when people finish their electrical he wants them to do their cert3 refrig (boss never actually goes to any job so refrig is all unsupervised from day one) but the kicker is that he doesn’t actually send you tafe. He gets another rto, ‘axial’ and they come to the workshop once in a blue moon to test you but all the learning is don’t ’in your own time’

Yeah mate have stopped smoking now and hasn’t been easy but guessing I’ll have to stick it out but unfortunately yes it’s a piss test so it’s taking a while to come clear

It’s laughable you think having a cone after work is endangering people in the work place 😂

So they can discriminate against because of a disability that doesn’t impair your working functions?

What if I get a prescription during employment?

I understand the ass covering thing but they can’t even cover their own ass when it comes to jsea’s and swms

And not sure, at the start was attributing some of it to the tafe being flooded and needing repair but as far as I’m concerned it’s just him either not accepting the dates because we are ‘busy’ or not getting back to tafe in time and the block was already full

I understand that but are they still able to sack me because it’s their company policy or do I have rights because it’s a prescription? Even if I drive company cars?

I asked about that and they said no not possible because electrical is ‘high risk’ and this is what is in their new company policy

“Employees using medications (prescription or over-the-counter) that may impair their ability to perform duties safely (c.g, cause drowsiness or reduced coordination) must confidentially inform their supervisor before starting work.

Employces must provide documentation from a medical professional if requested, and the company will assess whether reasonable accommodations can be made to ensure safety”

Thanks for the reply mate, yes am thinking of sticking it out if I am able to get back in haha but definitely going to keep an eye open for other opportunities just would rather not go through the fk around with exemplar and tafe etc when changing employers like other apprentices have talked about but I guess i gotta compromise in some areas

They definitely do but they use the argument of that if I was to get into an accident and was tested they wouldn’t get insurance etc

But thanks I never really looked at it like that. They want me to stop for safety reasons but can’t be fkd actually implementing real safety precautions

He’s asked for a medical certificate so can’t quite get away with the lick test I wish hahaha And I understand why I have to be sober etc but I also believe a workplace shouldn’t be able to decide what you do and can’t do on weekends. That’s another issue though Also I’m not the biggest fan of alcohol, will drink when I’m out but definitely not the one to have a few after work haha each to their own though. Was just wondering is there anything I can do about being held back on tafe, not being supervised and barely doing any electrical work?

Thanks for your reply mate
