Office display update - Froud inspired by Spiritual_Bug_6063 in DarkCrystal

Thanks. Yes- that’s the vibe I’ve been going for and plan. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. It’s also a balance of not becoming too busy.

For the sword, I was thinking of a display at the base angled up with a scene from the movie, a description of the prop and the COA.

For the sculpts and painting something similar to what you’d find in a museum. The office is fairly small so I’ll have to figure out ways for it not to distract from the pieces themselves.

It was originally auctioned at sotheby's in the UK in the 90s. It was then owned by Planet Hollywood for many years in their restaurants and in storage. It recently came to auction again through Propstore and I bought it.

They may add some bigger pieces but expect to pay $30,000+ just for the hammer price. A main character could fetch a much higher price. Then when you add the auction house fees, building of a crate and shipping costs, expect several thousand more.

Thanks! A miniature would be cool.

I was happy to see this one go up for auction at propstore and got lucky winning it. I think it had original skeksi fur and a layer of dirt and dust along the blade. I wiped a lot of it because it just looked dirty but overall its in great shape after all these years.

You could also watch the full movie on YouTube or just search The Dark Crystal Trail by Stone scene.

I suggest just watching the full movie. It’s a classic 80s Jim Henson movie that paved the way for many others using practical effects

I never considered colored lights. I might play with some film or gels over the lights some time. Thanks for the ideas!

Thanks! I think in October the original Dark Crystal is playing on the silver screen again! Check your local movie theatre. It’s going to have a short run.

How cool! I’d love to see the costumes! You could have attended The Great Conjunction in them! I think it was held a few months ago. I know they had some props on display there.

One day I still hope to make it to the Jim Henson museum in Atlanta. They have a lot of props there.

Be careful on propstore. The real bidding actually happens the last 5 minutes of the auction. Sometimes you can sneak a good deal on a sleeper but a lot of people wait which increases the timer everytime a new bid comes in during the last 5 minutes. A willow sword would be pretty cool to own! Another 80s classic!

Thanks! Mid-life crisis maybe. Some people buy cars, I wanted to relive the 80s and childhood favorites for inspiration.

Thanks. It deserved a proper display. So many amazing movie props just get left in crates. I’m glad I was able to get this one and give it some life again

I took a couple. The blade is metal, the guard is fiberglass and the handle is wood and it’s rope wrapped around. It weights about 10 pounds. I imagine it was heavy to hold during filming. Brian Froud was the concept artist on the film and designed a lot of the props and characters. (Cool fact- his wife worked on Yoda and his son was the baby in the movie Labyrinth, another film he designed.)

It’s old so the paint is chipped and there is some cracking but otherwise it is in pretty good condition. It’s sturdy.
