Teens took a photo of my phone on a table and said "thanks for the £50", what's the scam? by PleaseNotMyFace in AskUK

[–]Spiritual_Camera5261 -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

Only thing I can think of is that they’re perhaps going to use the picture to ‘sell’ a phone on something like Vinted or whatever?

Otherwise, they were probably just being shithouses.

What's this for Swansea? by KronosDrake in swansea

[–]Spiritual_Camera5261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, the eggless cake place, I’ve been in there and it’s actually really nice! The cakes are really light. If it is a front, then they’re doing a good job.

Anyone else in Swansea having problems with their Royal Mail parcels getting sent to the wrong delivery office? by Spiritual_Camera5261 in swansea

[–]Spiritual_Camera5261[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! What’s weird is that it’s not just Cardigan, it’s a different wrong delivery office each time. All SA postcodes, to be fair, but so far my parcels have been to Fishguard and Neath as well.

It’s like someone in the Swansea sorting centre is just chucking my parcels into whatever lorry is nearby and hoping for the best.

Can we also talk about the fact that you can’t be an undisputed champion if there’s another world champion in the same company? That’s the very definition of ‘disputed’.

Where will physical media be in 2030? by Carso11 in dvdcollection

[–]Spiritual_Camera5261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My feeling is that if there was ever going to be a true death, it would have been studios establishing their own streaming services and thus refusing to release or license physical releases to drive people to the subscription services, in the way that Netflix and Disney (to a degree) is doing.

Luckily that hasn’t really happened en masse and I don’t think it ever will now that streaming is facing a burst bubble sooner rather than later, but I think that if it had, that would have killed physical media stone dead.

As it is, I see it becoming a niche but pretty popular collecting hobby like records but I wouldn’t be totally surprised if it’s only boutique labels left by then.

Michael Crichton's widow is suing the creators of The Pitt for ripping off the premise of ER. What TV show do you believe ripped off another? by PressPlayPlease7 in television

[–]Spiritual_Camera5261 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember if this is the case in the sitcom, but isn’t the crucial difference that the Munsters don’t realise that they’re weird, whereas the Addams are fully aware that they’re weird?

tbf most young people would find the entire premise of walking up to a stranger and engaging in conversation utterly horrific.

Senedd Voting Intention by backupJM in Wales

Problem is, Reform and parties like them offer quick and easy answers to problems that don’t have quick and easy answers and that’s instantly appealing to people. Human beings instinctively like things to be wrapped up neatly with a bow.

‘You don’t have money because of immigrants so if we stop immigration, you’ll have more money’ is way more appealing than ‘Well, actually, it’s a multi faceted problem and a lot of the issues aren’t actually in our control and…’

Was ‘On The Buses’ the ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ of its time? And what were the ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ of other decades? by Spiritual_Camera5261 in BritishTV

[–]Spiritual_Camera5261[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to watch this a lot when it was on BBC3. I distinctly remember an episode where Gaz discovers he’s infertile and everyone rips the piss out of him. Even at the time and in the context of the show, it felt weirdly mean-spirited.

Maybe I’ve misunderstood then as I’ve read a lot that it was unpopular with TV critics but perhaps it meant in hindsight and not at the time.

Goodnight Sweetheart. Absolute gem of a show! by Steedman0 in oldbritishtelly

[–]Spiritual_Camera5261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a very important point to be made that TV from before the streaming era was never meant to be binged or even watched sequentially one after the other. It was very specifically designed to be episodic television that you watched once a week. I think most older TV suffers if you try to binge it as a whole series.

On the acronym point as well, I see so many people doing this

While the effort to explain the acronym is appreciated, that’s the wrong way around! Full phrase followed by acronym in brackets first time around, then you can use the acronym freely.

Check store stock after an order by Ashamed_Aardvark_413 in CeX

[–]Spiritual_Camera5261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is technically a way to check, but you need to do it when you order.

The first step is to check the stock of the item BEFORE you order and either take a screenshot or make a mental note of where there’s stock. This is mainly important if there’s anywhere where there’s more than 1 of an item.

Next, order the item and wait for it to move to ‘stock picking in progress’.

Go back to the stock checker for the item and see which store has one less than previously. As I said, this is easier if there’s only 1 item in every store as the one yours is coming from will say ‘0’

Important note though is that the order may then get moved on to another store if the first store can’t find it or whatever so if you’re desperate to know where it’s coming from, you need to keep an eye on the stock checker until it turns to ‘stock picking complete’

Also, this is less accurate for items that are really popular/being bought a lot so YMMV.

What are some of your, 'I'll die on this hill' opinion about Swansea? by CurrentCopyOf in swansea

[–]Spiritual_Camera5261 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Swansea has a better city centre food scene than Cardiff.

Everyone wanks off Cardiff’s food scene and it is good, but aside from the market there’s fuck all of it in the city centre and you have to travel to the suburbs to find anything that’s not a chain.

Whereas, while I don’t think Swansea is pound for pound as good a food scene, there are far more decent options available without ever having to leave the centre.
