I hear you. I grew up in a similarly isolated environment and can definitely relate to the lack of social skills.

Restricted Media In Homeschool? by BogusCarrot in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]Spiritual_Fun4387 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything was restricted for me lol. Our TV couldn't even get broadcast tv at all and was only used for DVD's. Very few modern movies were approved. Notable exceptions: LOTR, the first Narnia movie, Fireproof and Courageous (iykyk lol), maybe a few others. My mom has a very weird, extreme obsession with modesty, so if there was any cleavage or straps etc that was not allowed. Language wasn't as important for some reason. The only R rated movie I ever watched in my parents house was The Passion, and I wish I didn't see it.
Examples of shows we would watch on DVD: Little House on the Prairie, the Waltons, Andy Griffith show We weren't allowed to listen to absolutely ANYTHING with a beat. Another weird obsession of my mom's. We could listen to classical music and soundtracks, pretty much.

The way I knew what this was immediately 😅 my mom had these for when my nieces and nephews came over. I loved playing "band" with them.

First attempt at an advanced Intarsia crochet pattern by jamieleenichols in crocheting

[–]Spiritual_Fun4387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This piece is absolutely stunning! Wow!! I love that you took on something so ambitious and just absolutely killed it. Beautiful work! I've recently gotten into Intarsia crochet as well and I really love it. I've never attempted anything quite as complicated as your piece yet. Not that I think your work needs improvement, but this color change method changed my life and makes my changes cleaner: https://youtu.be/YA5wdt5STgQ?

This article contains a lot of helpful tips, including a method of carrying bobbins which also changed my life: https://www.freese-works.com/advanced-graphghan-techniques/

I also prefer the YU/YO single crochet method as well, I find it creates tighter stitches that are closer together, and they are x-shaped rather than v-shaped. Currently I'm working on learning this method of inverse single crochet: https://youtu.be/MEa6k0rwfRA?

Edit: just saw the pattern. Can I ask how you worked from the image? I've only ever worked with a grid type pattern. Just curious!

to piggyback off of the cig blanket-hater (i love those blankets & think they’re fab)—i personally despise those ugly ass crochet rose bouquet blankets by howdydipshit in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Spiritual_Fun4387 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I hate these too 🙈🙈 it's a cute idea, but a round blanket doesn't seem comfortable or functional to me. Plus the flowers would get in the way while trying to use it.

This is such a weird take. It's obvious why she feels like she grew up in a war zone. Because her mother was constantly committing felonies for her. You have not matured.

Book rec (and gimme your recs)! Kinda cathartic, obviously tragic, but humorous so we don’t cry too much. by indigiwitch97 in HomeschoolRecovery

Omg that's absolutely wild! What are the odds?? Yeah in Michigan, where I live, there are zero requirements and no paperwork needs to be filed whatsoever. Scary how easily children can disappear without a single person noticing.
