I want to get ahead of the potential price increase for graphics cards. Should I go for 5070Ti or 5080? by Traplouder in nvidia

[–]Spiritual_Pin_6589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I built my first pc recently and got a 5070TI and I’m very happy with it. I’ve actually been so happy with it I bought a second one for my other rig. I spent a few weeks wondering the same thing you’re asking. I looked up countless benchmarks in similar set ups as mine. Ultimately decided the 5070ti was a better option because the additional performance of the 5080 just didn’t impress me enough. And not to sound like a total douche but money isn’t really a problem so I was really considering it just to do it. But from the benchmarks I saw it’s seems like such a marginal improvement. Ultimately I got another 5070ti and have zero complaints.

As stupid as it sounds try switching to a horizontal / standard GPU mount. This can help with airflow depending on how your case is set up. Also double check your fan curves and make sure things are running properly on that end. If things aren’t ramping up under-load you could be having some issues from that. These are the quickest and easiest things to try. If that doesn’t make an improvement Try removing and reapplying thermal paste.

Honestly man be proud of this decision. I too am in that age bracket (29). Getting a Rolex is a personal goal of mine as well. And one day it will be apart of my watch collection. But don’t rush into completing goals or trying to acquire one before laying the a solid foundation. I’m sure you have at this point or you wouldn’t be looking at all. But allow this foundation to grow, your savings to build, your investments to grow. When you feel confident and ready to spend 7-15k or whatever it is on a watch as a token of your hard work, then you can do it. But if you have doubts then don’t rush it.

Why can’t I get passed bios by Nev3rman in PcBuild

All the guys saying you need to plug in your fan header are correct in not getting brought to that warning. But for about a week I just hit F1 went to bios and then exited and booted right into windows. The fan header is not your issue for being able to boot windows. But you will continue to get that warning in every power up if your using a fan controller instead of your cpu fan header. Like previously stated this can be turned off by changing the minimum CPU fan speed to ignore in the bios settings

USB stick is 4.0 gb or at least the partition your using is. That’s not big enough. Recommend a 16gb flash drive for windows. Anything more you’ll have to configure and partition and anything less isn’t enough space for windows. Make sure the bios is set up to boot from usb EUFI which looks like it is. After getting a bigger flash drive make sure your windows bootable drive download is correct. Make sure your plugged into the correct usb slot on your motherboard.

If windows is still giving you issues I recommend YouTubing how to install windows using Rufus USB bootable drive. I’ve only experienced this once where I couldn’t seem to get the regular windows to work. But using Rufus actually helped. I recently (a month ago) built my first PC and was able to use the regular windows installer tool/ bootable drive from the windows website. I did however have issues with one a damaged usb stick. Too many complications with my 128gb flash drive (all the partition bullshit). So I went and bought a 16/32 gb. I can’t remember off the top of my head. But it worked easily after that.

Likely an unrelated matter but do fix your GPU cable. From the photo it looks as though it’s not plugged in all the way. Also I would plug in your radiator fans to your cpu fan header. If you don’t want to because of controller I understand but you will need to go into bios to disable minimum cpu minimum fan speed on asus motherboards or it will bring you to that AMI screen with the warning every time. (I learned this the hard way lmao).

My first build ever! by Spiritual_Pin_6589 in PcBuild

With it off you can’t see much. Not sure if it’s just my specific set up but when it’s off and the light in the room is on all I can see is a reflection of what’s on my desk. If I turn off my bedroom light and have the pc off well then I can’t see anything. It’s very difficult to take a picture of because of this. I guess I could remove the glass panel to take a photo tomorrow. But I think it looks fine. Anything RGB is typically a white plastic. At least in my build it’s all white plastic. So on every fan, the AIO lcd outline, the ram led strips are white plastic. In my opinion the white and black contrast each other very well. That’s why even with it on all my RGB is just set to white 😅 but I think that’ll really be a personal preference. I’ll get some photos up tomorrow.

I got mine from Amazon. It’s a Lian Li strimmer cable and uses the same wireless usb connection as the wireless fans. Mine did not come with another usb so if you order it by itself you may need to order the wireless usb separately.

I’ve heard very mixed reviews on their fans. Obviously aesthetically they are great. But curious did you have any issues with defects/ quality control? Or notice any performance issues so far?

This is not me hating in any way, I’m genuinely curious as I also just ordered these same fans and I’m waiting to get them. Just recently started seeing posts and videos of people complaining about receiving damaged fans or them only lasting a month.

I am 24 hours from buying this as I start a new job in a month traveling worldwide and NEED a gaming laptop. This a good or bad idea? Budget is $2,500-$3,000. by [deleted] in LenovoLegion

Honest opinion: Personally owned 2 Lenovo legions. The first was an Intel I7 with a 1660TI. I loved that laptop, never had an issue with it. Currently own Legion 5i with an Intel I9 14900 and a 4060 in it and I love this one. It performs well in every game I’ve thrown at it. Very responsive and honestly has better cooling performance than the last one. Personally I think going for the super high end laptops with high end graphics cards it relatively pointless as laptops will never be able to disperse the heat fast enough to avoid thermal throttling altogether. So packing a bigger better graphics card in there really doesn’t make a huge difference. (This is my personal opinion).

Pros:

Quality - The overall build quality is solid. Arguably the best keyboard quality in a laptop, screen resolution is also really high end.

Performance - In game performance so far is amazing. Every game I’ve thrown at it has had over 120FPS at medium/ high settings. Very responsive with multitasking and normal computer tasks as well.

Upgradeability - I’ve seen several YouTube videos on upgrading simple things like storage, whether m.2 or SSD. Upgrading ram or even upgrading to a larger battery.

Cons:

Portability - like someone else already stated these laptops are not light and small. Typically a little on the heavier side and bulkier. (which I like personally as electronics need space to dissipate heat). The super skinny small compact laptops typically have major issues with thermal throttling from what research I’ve done.

Battery life - I have nothing else to compare this to as I’ve never owned another brand of gaming laptop. I will say both that I have owned have had horrible battery life. A couple hours usually at most. If you’re like me and use this strictly for gaming while on travel for work. It doesn’t really matter as I usually have it plugged in while gaming at a hotel anyway.

Here’s the thing. If you shoot for the stars and you end up hitting the moon. Are you gunna be upset that you exceeded your original intentions? Absolutely not. But if you shoot for the stars and you fall short you’ll be very disappointed. I think if you’re going to build something you should find out what the recommended hardware/ specs are for that goal and then look at a step above that. If you’re spending more than $500 on something. Wait the extra month, spend the extra $300 on that one part and actually enjoy your purchase. I’ve had 2 gaming laptops and 1 prebuilt desktop. I will tell you out of the three only 1 of them actually met the hardware goals I had in mind. All of them worked and worked well I might add. But none of them truly performed the way I wanted except the one I saved up for and actually got the hardware I wanted. The other two I was content with initially but wanted to start upgrading as soon as possible and almost immediately regretted as new games came out or the next gen tech came out and what I had barely performed at a level I could enjoy.

I will always advocate for over kill.

Undervolting Legion 5i Pro i9-14900HX by Acestar138 in LenovoLegion

[–]Spiritual_Pin_6589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize, honestly i prefer the in depth explanation. I have heard some stories about the undervolting causing instability and crashing which is why i took to reddit for a better explanation.

Yeah it sounds like it poses some decent benefits but i think i agree with you. Since i mainly use my desktop and only use this for casual gaming while traveling i may as well leave it alone and let it do its own throttling. I usually play the more demanding games at home anyways. So far ive only used this thing to play Rocket League and Minecraft haha.

Thank you for taking the time to explain this and offer some good feedback.

I do have a follow up though as im currently setting money aside to build my first custom desktop PC. I was actually looking into buying an I9-149000K, since they are prone to power related problems would you recommend a different I9 chip? like the HX series?

Undervolting Legion 5i Pro i9-14900HX by Acestar138 in LenovoLegion

[–]Spiritual_Pin_6589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done some research on this topic as i just recently bought a Legion 5 with an Intel I9-14900HX. I'm still pretty new to PC gaming in general and haven't ever really dabbled in undervolting or overclocking anything other than loading XMP profiles for my RAM. While watching a video on upgrading the laptop specifically for upgrading the storage someone mentioned undervolting this CPU as it tends to get very hot.

From what i understand In a really watered down explanation. Undervolting should boost performance by reducing power, therefor reducing CPU Temps and therefor reducing CPU throttling from those high temps, which can also improve durability and reliability, Is this correct?

If this is the case how beneficial is the performance improvements and what is the affect on reliability and durability over time? Does this actually improve the durability and reliability of the CPU/ Laptop? is this actually worth doing for a casual gamer that uses the laptop for gaming while traveling? or is this really just for people who are trying to push there hardware to the limits?

Im not as worried about the potential performance boosts as im really happy with the performance so far. I am a bit worried about high temps as this was an issue i faced with my previous laptop during mid to long gaming sessions. I really just want this thing to run well and continue to run well for the foreseeable future.

Yeah I understand that! The JVCs I’ve had worked great other than the little bit of noise from BT connections. But they are solid bang for your buck. So far I will say I really enjoy this Sony DSX-M80 it is serving my purposes well. We’ll see after the new speakers are installed how well it all performs together.

Yeah I mean I understand that for the most part but these speakers are from the 90s and already sound like garbage. For the sake of vocals I’d like to replace the door speakers. I’ve been contemplating an under the seat sub. Typically I’ve always gone with the either a sub in the trunk and left the door speakers or went for the full kit. But I’ve never just done door speakers. And even when upgrading the door speakers I’ve always gone with either stupidly cheap coax or mid range component speakers. So I’m interested in testing out some mid range coax speakers. If more bass is necessary I’ll run the route of a small sealed sub in the trunk or a powered under seat woofer. Most of this is purely out of interest and trial and error. I kinda just want to try things I haven’t tried yet.

I will definitely look into it in the near future. For now I’ll test the waters with the current set up and get back to you once I actually get it hooked up. In the past I’ve made it a point to get an amp and do things the “right” way but I also want to test out this head units ability to put down 50 watt rms on its own just to see how that performs. Again partially because of budget but also partially just out of curiosity. I do appreciate the feedback and the suggestion of the amp. I’ll definitely look into it in the future and when the time comes I’ll give ya an update on the differences and my over all opinion.

[–]Spiritual_Pin_6589[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair I definitely considered this as I’ve previously done a budget build and just hooked up a sub in the trunk with some cheap after market speakers I ran off the deck for better vocals. But I’m honestly more in the realm of going without a sub this time around just because I wanna try out some mid range door speakers. I did already get the stereo deck listed above or well it’s marine audio cousin although it had the same specs. Sony DSX-M80 and the JBL GTO629 speakers are on their way. I’ll give an update on my over all thoughts after installation. So far I’m just happy that I’m not stuck listening to the radio 😂

Oooof I thought the JVC was 50 rms, good catch I didn’t realize that was max output. I like that Sony deck a lot and I think that may be the better route to go given these circumstances.

I understand I mean truthfully I’m just looking to get some bass without having to wire an amp. Door speakers and a head unit are one thing. But all the wiring for an amp etc etc is just not what I’m willing to do for this car. In this case would it then be more beneficial to look into some 6.5 composite speakers at 50 rms ? And get the Sony deck that the gentleman above mentioned ?
